Question about 2001 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

* camry starter spins but won t crank motor * this problem happens intermitently, but now more often. australian camry (2001 model) 4 cyl petrol 2.2lt manual. done only 50,000 kms. near new battery, plenty of guts tried shorting screwdriver accross starter motor, but with same results. before removing starter, am attempting to list possibilities to be considered. my guesses would be: 1. intermitent poor electrical connections and/or 2. bendix gear not throwing into flywheel thru lack of lubrication. Questions: 1. are there other possible causes I have overlooked? 2. if I have to remove the starter motor, will I need a new gasket before replacing it? Any advice much appreciated

Your answer proved correct thankyou kirtec. The bendix gear was all but seized on the shaft. Lubrication, cleaning and fresh oil fixed it. Answering Question 2 - No gasket required

No starter sound, usually in a.m. battery strong. 2007 Chrysler Sebring 4 cyl.

If you have a good battery but your car won't turn over there are two things that it could be. The first thing it could be is your starter motor. If the starter is going bad then it simply won't crank. Now if you find that your starter is also good then the problem is most likely going to be your ignition switch that is bad. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. I hope this helps you out.

true about what do you mean
however if the fault codes read as CKP then check the wiring and /or replace the sensor
sensors have nothing to do with starter motors
starter motors just crank the engine over and if that is not happening, check battery condition , terminals , starter relay, starter motor
But they will prevent the engine from starting and running

Peugeot 206 2001 petrol intermitant fault with starter motor

If the starter motor is sticking, it can draw a large current. If there is power down to the starter motor while its not starting then the starter is faulty. You can test this with a multimeter or just a test bulb connected to the smaller of the two wires on the starter, while cranking.Check you have a good earth from the battery to the engine. If the bulb lights up but no engine cranking then its a faulty starter.
