I ran over a parking block at staterbros and now my bmw wont fo forwards or in reverse and it has a very loud idle

Before you make any other moves, I would try having the transmission flushed and refilled and filters changed and if that doesn't work, you may have burned out the modulator so you may have to shop around for another transmission or have that one rebuilt, whichever would be feasibly financial for you.

Will the car roll? Put in neutral and try moving it? If not, your brakes might be the issue. Was the emergency brake on while stored? If it was, it is probably is locked in place. Your brake light wouldn't be on if this is what the problem is. Let me know how u make out.

hi nickie, it sound like possibly the shifter unit is broken or the shift cable is damaged. it is also possible that some loose change could have wedged itself in the shifter unit. most dealers charge 1hr to access the shifter to inspect and check the cable.

Sounds like a loose heat shield, this shield will be mounted to the cat. converter. With the engine running and idling turning the wheel will cause a bit of vibration down thru your exhaust system causing the shield to vibrate.

It can also be theseat motor since there is seperate motors for up/down & forward/backwards. You can test the switch to see if you are getting power to the connector on the motor by using a multimeter.
If there is power to the motor, I would remove the motor and give it a tap on the ground. Alot of the time the motor is fine, and the tap will free it up again. If it doesn't work you may be up for a new seat motor. Giving mine a tap solved the issue with mine.
