Question about 1985 Chevrolet Corvette
It's not the alternator, it's the display. The solder connections go bad in the display and under vibration they flicker and give false readings, If you are good with soldering you can use a small pencil soldering iron and 're-solder" the circuit board, I did and it helped. Also the ground is poor as is the connection to the dash unit. Carefully clean both, I ran a new ground to the steel support and soldered in the new wire to the factory ground. It helped. Be careful as the tachometer lags a lot,

16.9 v will blow every bulb in the vehicle and damage any sensitive electronics. You alternator is runing wide open.and not charging. Actually its the regulator in the altrnator. It will cook your battery as well. need replace and battert check. - good luck
