If it came out the lock pin must have broke get a new one and push it in until it locks if you have no column damage it will stay.

2000 E150 Van my ignition key wont turn at all

Try turning the steering wheel back and forth as you turn the switch. The steering might be putting pressure against the switch and keeping it from turning.

Runs but only when applying pressure to the steering wheel

sound like loose wires to the ignition switch in the steering column. just remove steering column shroud and lower the steering column check the ignition switch wires.first disconnect negative battery cable before working on ignition switch. either switch wires loosen or switch could be bad.

Key will not start f150 truck I can circumvent and turn it over but how do I put in new switch

Disconnect negative on battery. Pull steering wheel with steering wheel puller. Take off turn signal assembly.

Put key in old lock, turn to on, you will see small hole on top of steering housing, put in stiff wire to push back retainer holding old lock, pull old lock out, install new lock, reverse procedure.

Its not starting as good as it used to

Try running Chevron Techron concentrated fuel injector cleaner in a 1/4 tank of gas.

Also, may be the issue in this TSB.

LIGHT TRUCK: 1990-91 RANGER
1991 EXPLORER
ISSUE: A hard start or no start condition may occur when the engine is cold. The engine may not start without cycling the key to the OFF position and back to START. Ignition switch bounce (loss of electrical continuity between contacts) may cause the EDIS module to recycle several times or to lock-up and not allow a start at all.
ACTION: Install a new ignition switch containing synthetic lubricant which reduces the amount of bounce. Also, install a new wiring connector containing a new material that is compatible with the new synthetic lubricant. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
REMOVAL
  1. Disconnect the battery power.
  2. Remove the trim panel. Refer to the 1990-91 Ranger/Explorer Shop Manual, Section 11-04B, for removal procedure.
  3. Turn the lock cylinder to the RUN position.
  4. Remove the two (2) nuts on the ignition switch.
  5. Separate the connector from ignition switch by gently prying on the ears of the connector and pulling apart firmly.
  6. Disengage the terminals from the existing connector. Discard the connector.
  7. Insert terminal into proper locations in new connector (F2TZ-14489-A), Figure 1. INSTALLATION
    1. Remove the spring clip from the new switch (F2TZ-11572-A). This clip keeps the switch in the correct position during shipment.
    2. Press the new connector (F2TZ-14489-A) onto the terminals of the ignition switch. Be sure the tabs lock securely.
    3. Locate the switch on the weld studs on the steering column. NOTE: THE END OF THE ACTUATOR ROD MUST FIT IN THE HOLE ON THE SLIDER.
    4. Install the nuts on the weld stud. Tighten to 4.45-7.24N-m (39-64 lb-in).
    5. Connect the battery terminal.
    6. Check the switch operation. If necessary, adjust it. Refer to the 1990-91 Aerostar, Explorer, Ranger Truck Shop Manual, Section 11-04B, for adjustment procedure.
    7. Install the trim panel.

Need to change the ignition switch

Remove panel under steering wheel. Put key in cylinder and turn back to accessory position. Looking under lower part of steering column locate a small pin under the key cylinder. While depressing the pin turn the key backwards and pull the entire cylinder with key out of column. Good luck.
