The steering wheel is twisted because your front end is out of alignment. The cracking noise, if it's related to your alignment problem, could be any steering or suspension item. Someone (a tech) needs to have a look-see to advise you. I'm guessing you hit a curb or pothole.

This is a potentially dangerous situation. The problem is most likely a worn ball joint or possibly a tie rod end. The front end would need to be jacked up to inspect the parts. After the vehicle is safely supported, you can grasp the tire and move it back and fourth and up and down etc. to see if there is any play in the joints. If you can't replace the parts yourself, have a mechanic check it.

Do not wait, as if the tie rod end or the ball joint comes loose, you will not be able to steer your car.

If you need more help, post a comment.

Thanks,

Tim

There`s a big bolt on the driver side of the rack and pinion of my 99 chevy Silverado LS two wheel driver.. if I loosen it, will it free the wheels from the steering wheel so I can align them back

I strongly recommend getting it computer aligned. Your eyes are nowhere near as good as the sensors on one of those machines. You're talking fractions of a degree on some of those angles. They'll check out your front end free before they make adjustments. If the cops recovered the car and you can get the police report, submit it to your insurance.

I hear small thumping under car near front when I turn steering wheel I hear small thumping I feel small bumping at 55-65mph

ensure your wheel nuts are secure.
check your tyres for stones /nails etc

If you hear sound when you turn the wheel but the car is stationary
I would advise you visit a tyre /steering /brake specialist if you cannot locate the source of the noise.

1).My Polo Classic 1.4i 1999 has a broken breather pipe(top), could this be the reason that it consumes fuel fast? 2)Also my clutch is very high is this normal? 3)When I turn my steering wheel I hear a...

Your breather pipe is an important part of the engine perforemance, if it is broken then you will use more fuel.

You don't say how many miles your car has done, but as it is 13 years old your clutch pedal will be high as the clutch will have worn down. (My Volvo is 10 years old and the clutch is high, but it still works as it should) However, this may be a contributing factor as to why you cannot engage second gear.

These cars are front wheel drive, the most likely cause of the cracking sound that you can hear is most likely a worn CV joint.

I am hearing a clunk when breaking with in town driving..not all the time. Took to repair shop, put on new struts in front. Still hearing the clunk occasionally.

It sounds like a cv joint noise how dose the steering wheel feel dos it shake side to side when brakeing truthfuly im not that formilar with your car but its a front end problem. New struts would help but not completly elimitate it. Im not sure if the engine is inverted on your vehicle is it front wheel drive if so its likely cv joints

Creaking sound while turning steering wheel

i'll bet this is a front wheel drive or four wheel drive. when the front wheels are tied to the drive train. the front axle shafts bearings can go kaput. jack up the vehicle and turn the steering wheel all the way to one side and spin one tire at a time by hand. you are bound to hear snaping and cracking coming from the axle shafts.

Steering wheel vibration and whine noise from rear of car

Yes, and it probably is your wheel bearing. Hearing a sound like a chain dragging is classic. You may also hear a clicking noise or chain dragging noise when turning to the left or right.

Look under the car and see if the rubber boots that surround the axle near the tires are cracked and leaking grease. If so, it is almost a certainty that the bearings are bad as you have lost grease and thus lubrication to the bearings.

Good luck,
bob

Vibration and noise from front end while driving

Jack up the front end and put stands under it and block rear wheels. Look at axle boots and see if they are cracked. Try turning wheel back and forth sharply and see if you can hear any clicking. Problem could be outer axle joints. If the boots are cracked or you hear a clicking noise you will have to replace the axle. The axle and boot come as a complete unit. Please let me know what you find out.

1998 Chevy Cavalier (Front end sound)

If I were you I would not use the car. It could be a bad wheel bearing or a steering tierod end thats about to go. Find out what the peoblem is first before driving. It could be several things. But a "thumping" noise sounds serious.

Breaking noise in the front wheel

it could be the joint in the c/v axle. or it could be that you have something loose in the steering linkage. i would not advise you to drive it until it is inspected. better safe than sorry.

Cracking or breaking sound when turning mainly when parking

I doubt it. I heard the same noise from my old Accord when the CV boot was going out. If you heard breaking from the drive shaft I believe the next thing you'd see is it rolling down the street. If the drive shaft were making that sound you would not be able to continue driving.
