If there is no obvious leak, there may be a faulty head gasket. If the gasket is faulty there should be white steam from the exhaust pipe. If you see steam, replace the head gasket. You may also try products like "bars leaks" that blocks up holes.

99 dodge Dakota sport 5.2 losing water like crazy. We are poor, both disabled. Found back yard mechanic who was **** ****** tweaked. Made everything worse.

sounds terminal for the motor ...

. its always going to boil

you can try any off the shelf engine crack gasket seal product you add in the radiator while motor is running ... see if it helps any

you can cut the guts out of the middle thermostat
and fit the shell back into the housing
water flow needs some resistance

you will need to keep checking the water level if trying this next bit
slacken off the radiator cap or overflow bottle cap to reduce the coolant pressure
water will flow ... motor will get hot

long term
most likely its done the head gasket
or could be a cracked head
could even have coolant in the oil
and or oil in the coolant

Heaters slow at warming up

In normal circumstances the heater wouldn't begin blowing warm air until the vehicle has travelled 5 miles - call it 5 minutes. That's because the thermostat only begins to open at around that mileage/time and allows coolant to circulate around the engine. Before that - there just isn't any warm coolant in the heater matrix.

After 10 miles/10 minutes of normal driving the engine will be at its correct operating temperature and the coolant will be hotter - as will the circulating coolant in the heater matrix. That's when the heater blows the hottest air.

If you're sure that the heater has lost efficiency it may be due to air being trapped in the heater matrix/coolant system, or a blockage caused by limescale/engine corrosion within the heater matrix itself.

To remove any trapped air, set the heater to maximum, remove the radiator cap/coolant bottle cap and let the engine tick over for 10 minutes.

If the heater matrix is blocked/partially blocked, drain the coolant system, refill with plain water, set the heater control to open .. and let the engine tick over for 10 minutes. Drain it again.

Refill again with plain water and add a can of 'radiator flush'. Follow the instructions on the can of 'radiator flush'.

Drain again and refill with coolant/water.

If the heater is still inefficient then the only option is to replace it - and that's not an easy job.

Monte carlo blows cold air and overheats

It really runs hot within a minute of starting ?
An engine that runs hot in a few minutes is often having problems with the water pump or a blockage in the cooling system. The thermostat does not open until 195 degrees which takes 5 or 10 miles of driving.
During that time, the water pump should be circulating coolant in the block and the heater hoses.
A leaking head gasket should be putting extra pressure into the cooling system, and-or dumping coolant into the cylinders which would come out the exhaust pipe. But it should still take a few minutes for the engine to reach the boiling point of 240 degrees.

1997 Honda Passport overheating and no heat inside car

Low coolant is the usual culprit, followed by a bad thermostat. When the car is cold take the radiator cap off and check the coolant level and add as needed, then make sure overflow tank is at the correct level. If the radiator is low but the overflow has fluid, replaced the radiator cap.

Heat/Cool gauge fluctuates inconsistently

You might check the coolant level after the engine cools,if it's low add 50/50 mixture of coolant and water. Keep an eye on the level to see if it happens again. You might have a small leak in the system. Good luck

Heating problem

Yes that is cool if it's correct. 195 F is approx.as low as you should have. I'd change it. Be sure to run with cap off, and heater on (not defrost) while refilling system. Wait for rad fan to come on 2 or 3 times before you put cap back on, then add coolant to return bottle as needed. Make sure rad fan only comes on when up to normal running temperature. If it runs all the time, it may be causing low coolant temperature too.

1997 Honda Odyssey thermostat

Honda recommends that the cooling system be topped up with coolant four times as part of the refill process. When the engine is fully cold open the radiator cap and add coolant until full. Run the car until fully warm with heater at maximum. Let it completely cool down. Remove radiator cap and top up with coolant. Repeat this process two more times. This helps purge the air out of the nooks and crannies in the cooling system.
