It is actually (arc'd) like to much voltage, no I have not tried a High quality set yet. I will try that this week. I am taking it on a trip and getting ready to replace so I don't have any problems. Thanks for the info.

Ive seen caps develop tracking, but cannot remember ever seeing one burn out...What does it look like when that happens? Also, I'll assume it is burning for now...have you tried a high quality cap & rotor like the blue ones made by Standard Motor Products? (they have a high dilectric# and can handle voltage far in excess of what a stock coil can produce.

Every time it starts raining truck starts missing and cutting out it's a 97 f 150 ford 4.6 motor.

Possibly a plug wire or cracked distributor cap. I'd take a spray bottle and while it's running (be careful not to get your body parts in danger of the fan) spray some water on the cap area. If everything seems fine, you could spray down each plug wire at a time. See if you find the culprit that way. For a vehicle so old, if you haven't done a tune up lately. It's probably a good time. Replace the distributor cap and rotor. Plugs and wires.

1995 suburban 5.7 suddenly developed an intermittent miss and now uses a lot of fuel. When it is not missing it runs great, but whether I'm accelerating or sitting at a light it will run great and the

Usually if there is no engine light it means that the problem is more likely a mechanical one. Where the problem is intermittent and when it occurs, there is an increase in fuel consumption, I believe the component will be related to air/fuel ratio. There are some common failures for this symptom, I will list some: (in the head) a weak valve spring or a bent or sticking valve, a dirty or loose cap and rotor, coil wire or spark plug wire shorting to ground, sticking or defective EGR valve, clogged air or fuel filter, excessive exhaust back pressure, or a weak or leaking fuel regulator. These are my suggestions. As always you will need to run some tests and inspect as much as you can. The more you find whether it is good or not, the more you will know. With this new information, it will get you even closer to the cause. Please let me know if you have other questions and any progress that you are making, good luck.

My 97 tahoe the rpm's start going funny engine startes running like its missing popping and ******* and die's it has new fuel pump ,sending unit ,rotor, cap.cam censor ,fuel relay everytime i c

I'm assuming you replaced the fuel filter when you did the pump.
You'll have to try to figure out if you are loosing fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs to proceed.
Its possible something is failing inside the distributor among other things.
I'm also assuming you have checked the computer for trouble codes.

Van running like its missing

the problem is not in the plugs , wires , cap , rotor but in dirty injectors or injector controls and wires
use a quality injector cleaner for a few tanks of fuel
ECM controlled cars do not a tune up as the computer does that 60 times a minute so all you need to do is to run the fault codes and fix the faulty sensors
fault codes are being recorded all the time and only the serious engine or transmission faults put the engine light on

I have a 87 Suburban V10 I have change temp sensor, new throttle body, map sensor, spark plugs. wires, and still can't figure it out. Went to pass someone and it started flooding itself and would not stay...

Change your fuel filter. Replace the distributor cap and rotor. If you have the HEI ignition, they are really bad about burning through the igniton rotor.

I have a 1999 chevy suburban 5.7 Vortech witch is starting to drive me nuts. The spark plug wires, and all around the ignition coil is arching. With this said the distributor, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and...

Assuming none of the wires are crossed, AND you replaced the cap rotor wires with quality replacements (meaning AC Delco) then you may have a bad coil. Remove coil from dist cap if HEI and look for any signs of arcing such as blackened areas.

Engine stalls right after start up has fuel press.

Fuel pump. It may have some pressure but not enough pressure to run the car properly. We just had to replace the pump on my son's 97 s10. It had a little pressure but not enough to run. Would start up and die as soon as you started into the throttle. They can check the pressure at a repair shop - you need a special guage.

ROTOR BURNING UP

The rotor is somehow making direct contact with one or more distributor contacts.

Check the contacts inthe cap to see if you find any physical damage to one or more contacts caused by the rotor.

Could be rotor lead too long (file it down) or maybe the distributor shaft is bent or not seated. Remove cap and observe the distributor shaft as someone cranks the engine. Does it wobble? Can't tell? Place a stiff reference parallel to the shaft and turn engine again.

You may want to check to make sure the #6 plug wire is in the guide where it is supposed to be. If its not it is just long enough it will drop down and hit an exhaust pipe, which once hot will melt the sheath and start arcing on pipe. This was the cause of my missing on the #6 cylinder. replaced the wire twice before I happened to catch it in action.
