I had a similar problem with my Cobalt- when I accelarate, it would seem to slow down. It needed new rotors and check around the CV boots for rocks or anything-this caused my car to shake when going 55-65 mph. I hope this helps.

Throw in some racing fuel to clean out your injectors or even run your gas all the way out and throw in injector cleaner with supreme gas then run that tank empty before filling up again.

Some problem in the valve body most likely. Do you get any fault codes when you scan the engine/transmission control module?

How do I fix: 2005 Chevy Cobalt jerks while driving and shutters while stopping?

Have your tie ends checked!! You can check yourself by going under car and grab drag link and see if you can feel movement. If no movement it should be ok. If it moves by hand get replaced ASAP DO NOT DRIVE!!!!! Drag link is the largest long metal bar at the front under the car.

I have a 2005 chevy cobalt that is making a humming noise after 20 mph. I can also feel a vibration in the gas petal. "noise" increases with speed. Higher milage and just had struts replaced about 150

squeakey69 is right it sounds like you have a wheel bearing problem cobalts are notorious for wheel bearings going bad i would go ahead and change both front bearings because if one is going bad the other usually isnt far behind hope this helps.

  • Hi, I can help.

  • I think the Cobalt is a decent car. not on my top 20 but defiantly worth owning if the price is right and the engine and transmission look clean and drive right.

  • As for the transmission, there is no dipstick. There is a check plug on the transmission just above the pan. I will list the steps on how to check the transmission. To fill the transmission there is a red or black cap that twists and pull up that is under the hood, on top of the transmission.

  1. Warn your car up.
  2. Make sure you are on a level surface.
  3. Put it in park.
  4. Set the emergency brake and leave the car running.
  5. On the back of the transmission there is a little 10mm bolt.
  6. Remove the bolt.
  7. If fluid comes out then it is full.
  8. If not then fluid is needed.
  9. Add just until it seeps out of the hole and that the proper way to fill that transmission.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

I've had my 2006 chevy cobalt LS since 2007 and has never had the transmission flushed.when and or should it ever be flushed?

Every vehicle should have the automatic trans fluid changes at 30,000 miles and never go over
3 years, even if the milage is less.
Also,do the power steering at the same time.
