SOURCE: changed oil pressure switch, still no oil pressure

The fuel pump on that model runs through the oil pressure switch so that if the truck looses oil pressure,It kills power to the fuel pump to prevent engine damage.you need to find the cause of the low oil pressure reading(possibly a bad oil switch). That would be the cheapest place to start,or have it checked with a mechanical gauge.Good luck,

SOURCE: 1991 chevy S10 blazer fluctuating oil pressure

I assume from the year it has high mileage. With mileage comes wear in these engine's bearings allowing oil pressure to drop because of the excess clearance between cam and bearings, also the crank and bearings. When the engine is hot and idling the oil is thinner and goes by the bearings quicker. If you have good oil pressure while driving, I'd leave it alone, maybe use a thicker oil or some lucas additive. My 89 does the same thing sometimes in the summer, but don't remember it doing it this summer. I use Mobil-1 and an AC Delco filter.

SOURCE: oil pressure at 0 on 2005 trailblazer

It sure sounds like the oil sending unit is at fault, now sometimes, not always, the oil sending unit will seep oil or leak oil if they go bad,but like I said, not always, change the unit, and the oil and filter just for precaution.

Low oil pressure 5.3 lts engine

Are you idling or is it doing 10 PSI driving it? If it has many miles on it it could be just getting worn out and that would be low oil pressure at idle when hot.

Oil pressure dropped to 0 and engine died getting offf interstate after doing 70mph took 30 min to get trailblazer to start

If the oil pressure switch fails ie send a low signal to the ECM it will not allow the engine to run.

1993 chevy pickup z 71 driving down interstate and check gauge light came on and oil presure dropped to 0. Truck died and cant start again

It could be the oil pressure sending unit, or the engine could really have no oil pressure.
If the oil pressure dropped to zero at highway speed, I would expect the engine to lock up or at least make alot of noise.
You may have to tow it home and check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, or replace the sending unit to see if the gauge on the dash reads pressure.
The fuel pump gets power from the pump relay at startup, then runs off power from that oil sending unit when the engine is running.

Oil pressure drops to zero at idle. Check engine light comes on. Codes are 11,12,54. Had crank and cam sensors replaced. Wants to die when problem occurs. restarts easy. Do not hear engine clatter when...

Locate the oil pressure sending unit and get a pressure test for yourself. If it is okay, replace oil pressure sending unit. If the pressure is 0. Replace the oil pump. Probably not 0 because engine would seize.

my sister had the same problem. There are 2 sensors that can cause this when they go bad. One is the oil pressure switch, which is located near the oil filter. When the PCM reads this switch, and gets a low reading, it will automatically kill the engine. The switch costs around $4.00 and is a 5 minute replacement job. The other possibility is that the crank position sensor has gone bad. When this sensor goes bad, the PCM can't read the appropriate speeds of the crankshaft, and will adjust the fuel and air mixture to compensate, often times the engine will die because it is getting insufficient fuel and air. The Crank position sensor is located on the engine block near the water pump. It is around $40.00 and at the most a 30 minute replacement job if you are unfamiliar with the process. I hope this helps. I'm a vehicle mechanic in the Air Force, with roughly 7 years of experience on the floor.

Oil gauge drops to 0 after driving about 30 min. However it still runs fine with no noise. I had the sensor changed and it still does the same thing.

Ok if you have replaced the oil pressure switch, you might want to have a shop put a guage on it, and see if it happens, while the gauge is on the vehicle..Just to get an accurate reading of the pressure from the oil pump itself....Your oil pump maybe going bad, and it is giving you intermidiate warnings...Another way you can check yourself, is let the vehicle run, and while the engine is running, keep checking the oil level on the dipstick, and make a mark of where it is...And when your gauge drops to 0, check it some more...now if the level is the same, then either your oil pressure switch is defected ( evev though you changed it already).. or your instrument panel is going bad... But if the level drops, when that happen, then you know for sure that your oil pump is bad... Goodluck..

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

get under the car and see if it seems wet or if anywhere is leaking, and does the car act any differently? If you let it drop to 0 is it running fine? If the car doesn't seem to have an issue then it's most likely you need a new sending unit for your oil pressure
