1999 Mustang convertible top won't raise....

I cannot get the soft convertible top on my Mustang to raise. I have the emergency brake on, but when I press the button it will not raise the top and I do not hear any "motor sound" indicating it is even trying to lift. Could it just be a blown fuse or is the motor totally crapped out? Also, does anyone know if the top can be manually raised, even if it takes 3-4 people?? I really need to at least get it raised until I can afford to have it repaired! Thanks!!

Yes, you can raise ti manually, it willbe kind of hard if the hydraulic cylinders that raise and lower it are in good condition because it will cause the fluid to move very slowly and thus, making it a slower job of putting the top up. It can be done, usually with just 2 people, i have oen and have had the same problem. And it is most likely a relay if it is not a fuse.

There is a fuse No.20 (15amp) in the under dash fuse panel and a 25amp circuit breaker in the under hood fuse panel that controls the top.

You don't need a manual to check the fuses 1 at a time. Just doing a visual (or use multimeter) will sometimes let you find a bad fuse. You do know that the top is raised and lowered using small motor located under the hood. Use dianostic code reader to find out who, what, where the problem is. Most readers are free to use at Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts, and NAPA.

There must be a hydraulic fluid leak somewhere. Check to see if there is oil filler cap on your hydraulic pump located in the trunk compartment. Fill if necessary with just enough fluid to raise the top. The reason it won't go up is cause it is lacking pressure from the low fluid

Top worked fine yesterday but today tried to let down only clicked

It is a hydraulic pump that applies pressure to the 2 hydraulic pistons to raise & lower the top. So, check for something obstructing movement first.

The convertible top:
  • is motor-driven.
  • requires parking brake engaged to complete circuit for operation.
  • is equipped with a back window glass (42006) . The back window glass is permanently attached to the folding top back window curtain (52500) and cannot be opened.

2005 PT convertible top won't raise - can top be manually raised?

Check your manual for the location of the top fuse.
Your car left the factory as a hardtop and was converted to a soft top by a Chrysler authorized company so the top fuse(s) may not be with the other fuses.
