Question about 1996 Ford Crown Victoria

1 Answer

My 96 crown vic stalls out for no reason

This has happened twice. The first time I was taking a corner, and today, the second time, I was stopped at a red light. Car seems to run great except for this which is disturbing. When the car stalls of course my check engine light comes on, and I loose everything including power steering, and my breaks seem not to work as well. Both times I've been able to get to the side of the road or a parking lot. Then when I try, the car starts back up. My mechanic called it a "fluke" and said that if it DIDN'T start back up, he'd have something to "go on".

This is really bugging me.

First, has the fuel filter been changed, and is the fuel pump in good working order. Next, the engine will stall only every once and awhile, have the MAF sensor on the air intake checked. This will cause what you are having. The engine will stall, then start up right after. This sensor costs a few $$$, since only Ford has it, but they can check it, and like your mechanic says, while it's running there's nothing to find wrong. But, from experience, I know the MAF sensor will do this. Once you open the new box from Ford. it's your's. You could try and find a good used one from a scrap yard, put in on yourself, it's not hard, run the car and keep your'r with you. If you have a problem with the used one, just change over. If this works, then you can buy a new one. Good luck.

1999 FORD CROWN VIC. 4.6 - PROBLEM, NOISE

This is caused by the IAC valve. Over time the valve becomes gummy and inoperative. Get it replaced and the problem is solved. IAC stands for idle air control, hence the stalling concern.

Cruise control on my 96 Ford Crown Vic has stopped working. What should I check first?

I dont know if they had it in 96 but there is something called a speed control deactivation switch. Maybe check your owners manual about that.
