What is the firing order for a 1986 buick regal 305 engine

The firing order is the same, 18436572
But, depending on who made the engine, the firing order may go cw or ccw around the cap. You need to check which way the rotor turns when you crank it, then follow the firing order in that direction. Sometimes the number 1 spark plug tower is marked on the cap, if not, put the number one cylinder on top dead center of compression stroke, which ever coil tower the rotor is leading into is number one, then follow the firing order in correct direction of rotation. You driver side cylinder bank should be numbered, 1357 from front to back, passenger side 2468, front to back.
If you replace plugs and plug wires, one at a time, you won't have this problem. Goodluck.

My 1980 Buick century is getting fuel to the carburetor, it has spark, but still won't start any ideas?

is the spark hot enough, high voltage or low, it should jump a gap of 1/4-1/2", and be bright blue/orange spark. is the timing chain worn and need replacing. what shape is the plugs, wires, cap/rotor. it could be the ignition module in the distributor. is the fuel fresh and good quality.

Replaced bad fuel pump, installed new relay and fuel filter, engine turns over but is not firing on..... positive the fuel pump is pumping gas and checked to see if gas was going thru fuel filter. Tried...

Hi, Ok you have confirmed that it's not a fuel problem. You need to check for spark. Pull the coil wire off of the coil(secondary lead-looks like a spark plug wire) Have some one crank it over and listen for a popping sound. IF yes, spark is at the coil, that means all ignition sensors are working. Next check for spark at ends of wires after cap. IF no replace cap and rotor. IF yes remove a couple spark plugs and check for fouling(wet, fuel etc...) IF yes replace or clean plugs and retest for starting. IF no spark is present at coil you need to scan computer and watch for rpm signal. IF no rpm signal, replace crankshaft sensor with OEM delco part. BIGGEST problem with these engines is Cap and Rotor burn out.

1984 Scottsdale 305 will not start. Coil pack - distributor cap and rotor replaced. What next?

Take a plug wire out put a old plug in it and crank to see if you have spark..If you do then its a fuel problem..Pour a little gas in carb and try to start

Idealing issues

Needs a tune-up:

Spark plugs and wires and distributor & rotor.

Do wires last... the others probably need to be done.

Hope this helps!

Wants to start spits and sputters but wont start! the car was running when it died and wont start back up! is getting gas has spark it turns over! any suggestions on what to check or what it could be?

You don't say what year so I have no way of knowing if you have a distributor? If you do, pull the cap and look at the rotor and inside cap contacts that go to plugs. Make sure the rotor is not all burned up looking and the cap is good too./ Push all plug wire and cap wires on tight and start with that. Let me know some more info....Is it a electronic ignition Distributorless ignition system, fuel injection or carb?

I have a 2001 chevy express 1500 v6 it wont start i check fuel pump, fuses and replaced distributor cap and rotor. havent check spark plugs or wires. it wont start...

Check for broken timing belt. Put a screew into spark plug head put the other end close but not touching to a metal engine part. have some one check for spark while you turn over engine. if thei is no spark check with distributor cap off if the rotor rotates when engine is being tuned over. if not then check timing chain. Good luck.

1985 Grand Prix Spark Problem

The engine will run rough if only one wire has no spark but will run.
I think you have more than that.
For ignition spark system
1- check if you have spark at the coil then
2- check all wires spark with HEI spark tester
3- If only one wire has no spark then
3a- Distributor cap cracks inside or rotor defect
replace Distributor cap and rotor
4- replace wire defect or no spark test with HEI tester.
You will find your problem with this.
Hope it helps.
