Question about 1995 Honda Accord

1 Answer

1995 Accord: Speedometer/gear indicator/hesitant acceleration.

I know nothing about cars, and I have no business under a hood; this post will prove my point. LOL! I have a 1995 Honda Accord EX. Background: I left the oil cap off one day after I added oil, and oil flowed out into the engine compartment. The oil gunked up my hood latch, so I took some WD40 to loosen it up because the latch wasn't locking the hood shut. At the same time I took some WD40 and cleaned some of the oil grime off the head of the engine block. I may have gotten some WD40 around the spark plugs/cables. I'm not sure if this is relevant to my problem I'm about to list, but this happened this morning before the problems came up, and before that my car was running perfectly with the exception of decreased gas mileage (for about 4 weeks now). Problem: Now, as I accelerate, 1) the car hesitates, but when in park the engine sounds ok and doesn't want to turn off, 2) the speedometer either fluctuates rapidly as I steadily accelerate, or it stays at zero (while the car is in motion) or while in park and I rev the engine, it fluctuates up and down with the tachometer, 3) the light on the dash that indicates what gear you're in (i.e. D4) blinks consistently, and 4) finally the check engine light came on. It was suggested that I let the engine dry out in the sun with the hood open to see if any of the WD40 over spray would dry out, and that's the poiint I'm at right now. What could I have happened? What could be some outcomes?

Sluggish, hesitation, surging. 5.7L TBI. When I hold the accelerator at 1100rmps it will start to dog and loose rpms. Full tune up did not help. Starts and idles fine. Replaced fuel filter also. I've heard...

I would go get a new distributor because gmc and chevy trucks are known for the gear that runs on the cam to get a little worn out and then the computer doesn't know where to advance or retard the timing to. So try that. I had a similar issue and I tried everything under the hood and it was just what I discribed.

95 honda accord speedometer works some times goes on and off but the real problem is when driving from a dead stop car takes off fine but when it switches gears losses power(torque) and does not switch...

Sounds like the sending unit to the speedometer is failing. This causes the speedometer to jump around and confuses the heck out of the electronics that controls your automatic transmission.

I have a 95 accord and D4 starts blinking and speedometer gozz crazy ya'll know y???

I had the same problem with my 95 accord, your vehicle speed sensor is going bad, the part new is like 100 bucks, you could possibly find one at a junkyard, I had to buy one new, the sensor itself will sit on the passenger side, under the intake hose, its a pain to get to if you have large hands. But it is something that you definitely need replaced

Weird noise when accelerating.

almost sounds like a clogged catalytic converter, hard to say not knowing the miles and how long since any maintenance and what was done.

Speedometer quit, Drive 4 light started flashing, check engine light now on, slight power loss when accelerating

check your wheel speed sensors. and vehicle speed sensor on the transmission

drive 4 uses it to sense slip in the front/rear wheels.

check engine light on because it needs to know vehicle speed to shift properly.

no speedometer because it turns the voltage into a signal to the gauge
