Fuel sender is likely coated from our wonderful fuel and there is actually less fuel in your tank then you think. The fuel sender works off resistance and is less accurate at low levels when the extra resistance from 'dirty fuel' skews your sensor. GM has a really good fuel cleaner that you can dump into your tank. Just ask a dealer, they will know exactly what you need
