BEFORE YOU START,, READ THIS ENTIRE PROCESS. If you're water pump is outside the engine is easy, but if is inside is best to take it to a repair shop, for this procedure the engine must be cold to prevent burning, 1st check if the air hoses is on top of the water pump if it is remove it then locate the serpentine belt if is a car or truck with several different types of belt then take out the ones that are blocking the water pump make shure the belts goes to the same place, for the single belt you don't have to worry about that after removing the belts you just need to unscrew all bolts from water pump then pulled out, in some cases you need to maneuver the water pump, after taking out your water pump remove the gasket and clean the surface make sure is gasket and dirt free this will prevent from leaking ones is clean grabbed the new pump, apply some RTV OR SILICONE around the surface where the gasket goes then put the new gasket in with holes lined up carefully put it back and insert the bolts, hand cross tiet first and then cross tiethen with ratchet tool, put back all belts and air hoses put water and antifreeze and your done, in some trucks or vans the bolts do too need some silicone around the threads or it will leak good luck and hope this was helpful!
Hi, you will need some special tool like : External torx (star)socket, pully and regular tool (# 10,12,14 etc..metric) to change the water pump.First, you need to clear the room for the job because such as Two belts -(alternator,air cond., pump ect and pully) need to disconnected and take out the plastic cover, tire e.t.c. There are about ten bolts. The water pump is inside the plastic cover which turns by the timing belt. I strongly recomment to change the timing belt at the same time ($30.00-timing belt- It last about 80000-90,000 miles). Remember to mark the timing gear carefully when you take the timing belt out. This will help you put the timing belt back in the right degree for the engine perform. Water pump can only replace after the timing belt is disconnected. Take care
Remove the belt (remembering how it goes back on, drawing the belt routing usually works) I find it best to remove the two top shroud nuts 13mm. Also removing the air box will allow for access under the alternator. Two 10mm bolts hold in the water pump. Clean the sealing surface.. install new water pump and gasket. Re-install components. Top up lost coolant making sure air is blead out, otherwise you will run into overheating issues.. Good luck
back belt nearest the engine goes around the crankshaft pulley and the power steering pump
next belt out goes around crankshaft, power steering pump water pump and ac compressor
next belt goes around crankshaft water pump and alternator
last belt goes from water pump to smog pump
drain cooling system, lossen but dont remove bolts on waterpump pully ,then remove belt by prying back tensioner, (make a drawing of belt route so you can reinstall when done.) next remove bolts holding pump on, now pump should pull off.clean old gasket off block, now put gasket on pump with a little coat of sealant between pump and gasket, now install new pump, reverse direction to put back together, hope this helps, good luck.
from front of engine looking back, belt around bottom of crank pully, water pump is just above, left side of belt comes around water pump going counter clock wise, put belt over alternator, then straight across to a/c compressor,(make sure belt goes under any idler pullies, smooth side of belt to smooth side of pully)find your belt tensioner, pry back on tensioner(be carefull)and carefully place belt under roller pully of the tensioner, release and check allignment of belt prior to starting.oh ya make sure belt is in good condition.
