Look on the back of the bottle of fluid you are looking to buy, if it does not say is is approved by MB, don't use it.

most P07** codes are Transmission related for your vehicle DTC P0730: Problem in Shift Control System has the vehicle been shifthing funny? reving up before shifting? It will probably be need to taken to a repair facility to determine the cause of the problem. It could be caused by the shift solenoids not holding pressure or an internal clutch pack is going bad. I also have a 2002 Jetta 1.8t and my ****** is slipping. It is also showing the fault code PO730. Do you have any details to the fix you described of pulling the side cover and replacing burnt up clutches?...

the code stands for UNDIFINED RATIO PROBLEM which means most likely the clutch facings are well worn. Remove the trans pan, drain, and inspect for shavings in the fluid. If there have a pro look at your fluid. It may have metallic shavings in it as well which means other worn parts in the trans
