Loosen the alternator bolts and slide the alternator to loosen belt

I just replaced mine today. 97 buick lesabre, 3800 V6. The tricky part is that there is an alternator bolt behind the tensionor pulley. The tensionor pulley is directly below the alternator amd it has reverse threads (tightens counterclockwise).

First secure a socket on the tensionor pulley bolt, center.

Rotate the bolt counter clockwise to releive tension on the belt and slip belt off of the pulley.

Now it is neccessary to remove the tensionor pulley by rotating the bolt in the clockwise position, it's a reverse threaded bolt.

Once you have removed the tensionor pulley, you can access the bolt that holds the bottom of the alternaor.

    Hope this helps.

Where is the power steering pump on a 1997 buick leSabre 3800

ou are looking at the engine, on the left (passenger side) will be the belt. The alternator should be at the top of the belts route. directly below the alt is the tensioner/pulley (small) Below and to the rear of the vehicle is the power steering pump. The resevoir is attached to the pump. If you reach/look over the engine and feel below the heater hoses you will see the p/s pump resevoir cap

My engine accessory belt came loose on a 98 buick lesabre with a 3800 engine. Can I loosen Alternator so it can slip back on?

There should be a TENSION PULLEY/ARM that accepts a large (3/4"?) wrench or cresent wrench. You rotate the pulley in the direction to loosen (its' tension) and get the belt back in place.
Sometime if the belt has ridden off the pulleys it will need to be replaced. Turn it so the "teeth" are on the outside and see if there are cracks in the rubber. Also look for wear marks on the pulleys or "rubber" that has come off the belt.

you can follow the directions as said in the manual, it is also specified with a diagram near the radiator.
You must first of all loosen t he belt tensioner pulley so that the belt can be rolled accordinly .Once done fix tension to the pulley and pull tight while tightening the bolts.

Do I have to remove pass side motor mount to change serpetine belt on 1999 lesabre

Not sure, but I had a 1997 Malibu and I had to loosen the top motor mount and jack up the engine to get enough room to get the belt under it. (What a crappy design). Sounds like the LeSabre is the same way.

Installing serpentine belt on buick lasabre 1995

motor mount does not need to be removed. there is an idler pulley which can be lifted up using a socket and long bar. the belt relaxes and is easily removed and replaced.

Loosen the serpintine belt on 95 buick lesabre

I'm sure you got it figured out by now, but I just did this today. the belt can be given slack by placing a ratchet on the belt tension pulley (the smaller one located to the left of the alternator) and applying counterclockwise pressure. This will give you enough slack to remove the belt. It is helpful to draw a little diagram of the belt configuration, so when you put on the new one, you get all the directions right.
