Question about Cars & Trucks

Is an oil additive neccessary with high mileage motor oil?

My car has 200,000 miles. We have always kept up the maintenance schedule and the car runs great. When I get the oil changed they have been putting in Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage motor oil and I have them add a can of B&G oil additive. I have been reading how the Pennzoil high mileage protects the motor and was wondering if it is necessary to use the B&G oil additive with the Pennzoil or do they both do the same thing? Thanks, Shirley

id say that when the car hits around 55,000 miles giving it around 10,000 to use the oil to the fullest also change the filters, sparkplugs and wires, and add some kind of gas tank cleaner to keep the car running strong :)

SOURCE: Scheduled Maintenance

Best bet is to consult your owners' manual, however, there is one thing to expect to come up soon that won't be mentioned there. Delco alternators usually croak at about 62-65,000 miles like clockwork. Be prepared for it.

the next scheduled maintenance should be at 50,000 miles and the car should be under warranty still.

Should I use conventional or high mileage motor oil for my engine with 244,000 miles

Even if the vehicle has had regular oil changes with filters every 5-6000 miles use the high mileage specific oil. The engine will have wear no matter how good the previous maintenance has been. been.
I have a Honda that has 180000 miles on it and notice that on longer journeys it uses oil even though it has been well looked after since new. The high milage oil makes it run less noisily, (it is a diesel.) I believe it make the engine more longer lived too

Is 200.000miles bad are naw and whAt should I do to the engine like maintenance work

200,000 miles is high. But if the car was kept on, you could get another 100,000 miles out of the drive train. Keep up on the oil changes and add an additive to the oil. Everything on the suspension side has been changed at least once. you might start seeing that they need changed again.

I have a 1992 Honda Accord Ex I shift it to D4 the indicator light does not come on in the instrument panel and when I drive it all the gears change but not the very last one sometime the last gear change...

Look at 2 concerns...are you driving above 42 mph when you expect the shift into D4? Automatic overdrive transmissions will not shift into overdrive below that speed. Depending on your mileage, a transmission fluid change may be on your scheduled maintenance list...If over 100,000 miles and no record of previous service, you may want to use an additive instead of a fluid filter change. Sometimes on high mileage, problems occur after an attempt to catch up on ****** maintenance:( My best results have been to use the Lucas Oil Companies "Transmission stabilizer" additive. With a warm motor and transmission, you can add the full bottle of the additive without a need to drain the old fluid. This additive is designed to "refresh" the ****** fluid and filters...about $12. at your parts store. Also you may need to clean your throttle body and injectors by direct spray, and gas tank additive. These are the least costly attempts to address both problems. Hope this helps.

Looking at a 95 rodeo with 115000 mile what can i expect as far as maintenance/tune ups?

Really depends on whether the maintenance has been kept up on it with records and how hard the car has been driven. Hopefully its been taken care of. I'd say a minor tune up. Plugs, wires, oil change. Check and possibly change tranny fluid. It should be good, that engine will go 250,000 - 300,000 miles without much trouble if you take care of it. True story. Hope it helps!
