Set timing nissan

To set the timing on your 1991 Nissan truck, follow these steps:

1. Locate the timing marks on the engine. They are usually located on the front of the engine, near the crankshaft pulley.
2. Remove the timing cover if necessary to access the timing marks.
3. Check the engine's specifications to determine the correct timing setting. This information can be found in the owner's manual or a repair manual.
4. Connect a timing light to the battery and to the number one spark plug wire. The timing light will allow you to see the timing marks more easily.
5. Start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.
6. Aim the timing light at the timing marks on the engine and observe the marks as the engine runs.
7. Use a wrench to loosen the distributor bolt slightly.
8. Rotate the distributor slightly to adjust the timing until the marks line up with the specified setting.
9. Tighten the distributor bolt once the timing is set.
10. Recheck the timing to ensure it is still set correctly.
11. Turn off the engine and disconnect the timing light.
12. Reinstall the timing cover if it was removed.

If you are not comfortable performing this procedure, it's best to take your truck to a qualified mechanic for timing adjustment.

VG33 engine will have timing marks. a timing gun is also handy in these situations.

Hi all it is with out doubt a major blunder by Nissan to fit a Renault timing chain mechanism to the almera and other Nissan engines. I have dealt with many a customer with an engine light on hoping that a crankshaft sensor would sort the issue out, Nissan will charge in excess of 750 euro to replace the timing kit and having it replaced you might hope to get 120k from the car well I have come across engines only covering 30k buyer chain failure, beware if you are doing a chain replacement your self use (oe) parts often spurious parts don't have the paint marks on the chain to aid setting the timing ,

This is for a 1998 nissan sentra 1.4 engine, start engine and allow to reach operating temp.then turn engine off and disconnect throtle postion sensor connector.

With tps sensor disconnected start engine and increase idle to 2000 rpm three times then release and allow it to idle.

now check timing, timing should be at 6-10 degrees BTDC. adjust as needed then turn key off and reconnect tps .

It's has a timing belt, also it's an interference engine, if belt goes bad it will bent valve's .

whyknot87: As far as I know, Nissan did not put a 2400 in a Sentra in 1992 or for that matter any year that I am aware of.
The Sentra had an SR20DE Which was a dual overhead cam engine.
According to Nissan, setting the timing on this engine requires the use of a scan tool as part of the procedure. There is no procedure for setting it without a scann tool.
The timing for this engine is 15 dedrees +/- 2 degrees @700RPM

The other engine this year Sentra used was a GA16DE
which was also a dual overhead cam engine.
This one could be set in a conventional manner with a regular timing light. You must have the engine at normal operating temp.
Disconnect the throttle switch and then you set the timing to
10 degrees +/_ 2 degrees @700RPM

The 2400 engine you probably are referring to is the KA24DE which came in Nissan 240SX and the Nissan Stanza. There are procedures for setting these as well, however I need to know wha4t car and engine you have?
The 2400 had 15 degrees +/- 2 degrees @700RPM

For which engine.............VGI301 thats the V6 or the L engine?
