The fuel pump is in the gas tank. Buy a cheep fuel pressure tester from harbor freight.com and on the top of the engine is a metal rail with a plastic cap on it, remove cap put gage on and read pressure

SOURCE: fuel pump

Yes they are the same, the job of the fuel pump driver module is an electric voltage regulator that varies the voltage supplied to the fuel pump to slow it down, this makes it run very quietly and does away with the whine at idle that some people find annoying as I have found from personnel shop experience at the Ford dealer I worked for for 20 years..

I have 2008 GMC sierra 5.3 L with a new fuel pump. And no power to the pump. Any ideas where to look?

Fuel Pump Flow Control Module (FPCM) - LMF
The fuel pump flow control module (FPCM) is a serviceable GMLAN module. The FPCM receives the desired fuel pressure message from the engine control module (ECM) and controls the fuel pump located within the fuel tank to achieve the desired fuel pressure. The FPCM sends a 25 KHZ PWM signal to the fuel pump, and pump speed is changed by varying the duty cycle of this signal. Maximum current supplied to the fuel pump is 15 amps. A liquid fuel pressure sensor provides fuel pressure feedback to the FPCM.
Electronic Returnless Fuel System (ERFS) - LMF
The electronic returnless fuel system is a microprocessor controlled fuel delivery system which transports fuel from the tank to the fuel rails. It functions as an electronic replacement for a traditional, mechanical fuel pressure regulator. A pressure vent valve within the fuel tank provides an added measure of fuel pump flow control module (FPCM). Desired fuel pressure is commanded by the engine control module (ECM), and transmitted to the FPCM via a GMLAN serial data message. A liquid fuel pressure sensor provides the feedback the FPCM requires for Closed Loop fuel pressure control.

Replace fuel pumpand moddual on a 2001 jeep wrangler sport 4.0l in side tank assembly

Fuel Pump Removal & Installation To Remove:
WARNING
The fuel system is under constant pressure, even when the engine is off. This pressure must be released before servicing the fuel pump module.
  1. Drain fuel tank and remove the tank.
  2. Thoroughly wash and clean area around pump module to prevent contaminants from entering tank.
  3. The plastic fuel pump module locknut is threaded onto fuel tank. Install special tool #6856 to fuel pump module locknut and remove locknut. The fuel pump module will spring up when locknut is removed.
  4. Remove the module from fuel tank.
To Install:
CAUTION
Whenever the fuel pump module is serviced, the module gasket must be replaced.
  1. Thoroughly clean locknut threads and mating fuel tank threads. Use a solution of soap and water. Do not use carburetor cleaner to clean threads.
  2. Using new gasket, position fuel pump module into opening in fuel tank.
  3. Apply clean water to locknut threads.
  4. Position locknut over top of fuel pump module.
  5. Rotate module until arrow is pointed toward front of vehicle (12 o'clock position). This step must be done to prevent float/float rod assembly from contacting sides of fuel tank.
  6. Install special tool #6856 to the locknut.
  7. Tighten the locknut to 55 ft-lb (74 Nm).
  8. Rotate fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator until its fitting is pointed to 10 o'clock position.
  9. Install the fuel tank.

Pump Module—Left Side
  1. Release the fuel pressure.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable.

NOTE The fuel level of the vehicle must be below 5/8 of a tank before you remove the module lock-rings. If it is above that you can spill fuel in the vehicle.

  3. Drain partial fuel from fuel tank through the filler tube. Use a hard nylon tube, with a 30° cut on the end, to push the check valve open to drain fuel from tank.
  4. Remove the rear lower seat cushion.
  5. Push seat back and up to remove seat cushion.
  6. Fold back the foam pad covering access cover for modules.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from left side module.
  8. Mark the module orientation.
  9. Use special tool 9340 to remove left side module lock ring.
  10. Drain fuel from left side of fuel tank. Lift module up enough to push hose into tank and drain. Do not spill fuel in interior of vehicle.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector for the left side fuel level card from bottom of the module top.
  12. Disconnect the electrical connector for the right side fuel level sending card.
  13. Lift module top half off and tip lower half on its side to drain remaining fuel from the reservoir.
  14. Remove wire from module.
  15. Use a screwdriver to separate the locking tabs on the level sending card.
  16. Lift level sending card straight up and out of module.
  17. Disconnect the electrical wiring from module.
