Question about 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck 2WD

2 Answers

My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 360 Magnum stalls and bucks for the first 15 minutes of driving and then it eventually goes away when it is warmed up. Had recent tune-up and still stalls. It also kicks out my overdrive light back into overdirve, so I push the button on the column shift, then the engine buckes for a second or two, and the tranny kicks back into overdrive. Like I said, this goes on for at least 15 minutes or so beofr she warms up and then no problems. Also no codes, just the engine will flash on and off when she goes through her stalling process.

I had the exact same problem with my 97 dodge ram 1500 318. I did a full tune up and still did the same thing so i took it to autozone and had them put it on the computer (its free) said it was misfiring in 4 cylinders so i did a full tune up plugs, wires, rotor and distrubitor cap, after that i disconected the battery to reset the computer and after i hooked the battery back up the engine light stoped comming on but it would still buck and shake when i got the truck up to about 45-50 mph and the OD kicked in so i took out all 8 fuel injecters (real easy to do) and 2 of the injecters were completely clogged up. So what i did was i used a pick to clean out most of the dirt/rust from the top of the injecters then used 2 wires hooked them to the injecter and then to the battery to open the injecter up (if the injecter is still good you will hear a little pop sound when it opens up) then use a sprey cleaner and sprey into the bottom of the injecter not the top so it puches everything out the top. i this for all 8 injecters and reinstalled them and after that no more bucking no more shaking and alot more horsepower.

I hope this helps

2001 ram would not start, but when started it ran rough & stalls

Your electronics won't work properly if voltage is low. Charge and load test battery to make sure it's good, then check charging system to make sure it's operating. Once that's squared away you can diagnose running problem if it is still there.

Stalls will not stay running after wormming up

Throttle position senser might be going bad. I had in the same problem in my truck. It wouldn't stay running unless I had my foot on the gas and as soon as I let off, it would die. Try it. The sensers are relatively cheap at Auto Zone or somewhere similar. Around 30 bucks.

Dodge ram 1500 engine rpms surge at freeway speed

those sensors could cause the issue, clean the MAF 1st, also clean the idle system using the following procedure, the IAC can cause cruise surge. I use this to cure these problems all the time.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve (IAC) and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
