Question about 1986 Mazda RX-7
I had my car overheat on me and all of a sudden stall one day on my way home from work. I replaced the thermostat and waterpump and bled the cooling system. Now my car does not overheat but after I start my car and let it warm up like usual, once the temp gauge gets to normal operating temp, my car stalls. I temporarily fixed the stalling by pulling a vacuum hose and leaving it open but my performance is definitely suffering. It seems like its not getting enough air to balance out the fuel ratio after warm up or something since if I plug the vacuum hose the idle drops low and instantly kills the car.
Try running the fault codes to check which sensor has been affected by the over heat .

Testimonial: "I will look up how to pull codes from the system. I sure do wish it was OBD-II instead of old school!"
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

I am having a similar problem and my mechanic thinks it's a fuel regulator. Part was ordered and it's being replaced this week. We'll see. Unrelated, I'm/we're having a heck of a time finding an oil pan...mine is very blistered....but it is 17 years old.

Your carberater is having problems getting the correct amount of fuel.Either a line or fuel filter is clogged or you need to have your carb. rebuilt.

There is a throtle adjuster right behind the carb. You can adjust it with a screw driver. If you are not sure where it is, just have someone press to gas pedal and you will see it move. RPM's at idle should be around 1,000 when it is idle once it has warmed up. Once that car warms up the choke moves back in and the car is probably stalling because it is not running enough RPM's.

Try unhooking one of the battery cables and leave it off for at least 20 minutes. When you hook it back up the computers should re-boot. That has solved problems for me with heater, interior lites, power windows, AC, day time running lites, power mirrors, fast idle, rough or slow shifting, CD player, and wipers on GM autos and S-10 PU and Dodge trucks. None of the switches are connected to the device they control anymore. The switch tells the computer to open the window and the computer send a signal to the window motor. When the computer gets confused strange things will happen or not happen. Of course you may have to re-set your radio stations.
