When an aftermarket radio is installed, the yellow wire should be connected to a constant 12v power source. IF it is connected to a normally off power source (normally off - meaning it isn't working when the ignition switch is off) then it will not keep memory settings and return to the factory settings.

As for being shocked, normal static charge is possible when exiting a vehicle. Try this...open your door and hold your hand on metal (outside of the vehicle) while sliding out of the car...the roof is a good place...do not let go until you are out of the seat. If you don't get shocked, then it is because you are eliminating the arc space between your negatively charged car and your positively charged body.

Adding a ground usually isn't necessary, if the radio ground wire (black) is connected. But adding a ground from the battery to the frame or fender bolt is never a bad thing...ground wires often rust or corrode and prevent electronics from performing at their best...including the ECU (computer brain for your car)

SOURCE: Wiring Short?

hi
im dave
im not sure which ground you cleaned and changed but i would start with the oone closest to the problem area. Look under the kick panel at your left ankle or under the dash where the light switch is. Is your floor wet after these rains along that sidewall where your left foot would be? Could be you have a leak in the windshiel allowing water in there and shorting your ground.
let me know how this goes

SOURCE: get out of vehicle and get shocked

If you drive the vehicle do you get shocked when you get out? I have a pair of K-Swiss shoes. When i wear them I get shocked when I get out of my truck. It is a static shock that I get. Your wife may be wearing some kind of clothing, maybe synthetic that is causing this. Try driving it yourself and see if you get shocked.

How do I trouble shot a no spark situation?

This will be interesting, I have had so many issues in regards to this. Here is what I did to troubleshoot. ALWAYS CHECK THE REPAIR MANUAL 1ST (On troubleshooting) before anything else, you will be surprised on what you find. If You don't have a repair manual, search online. Year, Make and Model (Google always works wonders). Keep in mind, not all vehicles have coil packs. Some later models have distributers and the procedure is slightly different than this answer. On to the answer, I pulled the coil pack and spark plug assembly (it must be connected to the wire harness for this procedure to work), and I faced it to where I can see a spark and not shock me in the process. I had someone start the vehicle for less than 2 seconds (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HOLD THE SPARK PLUG WHILE STARTING). Holding it away from the engine or anywhere that can emit a shock to you is best. I normally hold it on the rear side of the coil pack, facing the spark plug away from anything that can ground and possibly shock the living lights out of me (Upright will do). If you see a spark, then that coil pack and spark plug are operational. Continue to remove in the same process, but be sure to put back the coil and spark plug that was removed and tested into the proper place you removed it from in the first place. I hope this helps :-) Here are some videos I came across. How to rule out Spark Plug as your problem

My 2001 Alero Driver Door Shocks Me Every Time I Exit the Vehicle

This is usually a sign of an alternator getting bad. It can also have problems with bad ground wires . You can buy anti static rubber wire straps that hang from the back of your car. This grounds everything better and decreases static electricity. It also is good for car sickness. If your alternator is overcharging, you may get a shock, so I would have that checked out first, than a short in ground wires. Hope this helps

Ac does not work/radio lights dim or off

Sounds like a bad ground connection! If you have a voltmeter, try measuring the battery voltage first! It SHOULD be 13.8 to 14.6 with engine running, and the alternator charging the battery!

When i turn on the wipers and the radio they work fine ,when i turn the light switch to road position and hit the dimmer switch the radio and wipers stop working. The blower motor work fine at any position....

Sounds like bad ground , try re-grounding radio and see if that helps. make sure you have a ground wire from battery negative to car body and ground from body to engine, lot of time head lights are bright when you rev the engine and goes dim at idle. but i'm sure this is a bad ground problem

Reset message center window

THIS SHOULD HELP YOU

Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds. If the CHG OIL SOON light flashes two times, the system is resetting. Turn the key to OFF, then start the vehicle. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON and the radio off. Press and hold the DISP button on the radio for at least five seconds until SETTINGS is displayed. Press the SEEK up or down arrow to scroll through the main menu. Scroll until OIL LIFE appears on the display. Press the PREV or NEXT button to enter the submenu. RESET will be displayed. Press the DISP button to reset. A chime will be heard to verify the new setting and DONE will be displayed for one second. Once the message has been reset, scroll until EXIT appears on the display. Press the DISP button to exit programming. A chime will be heard to verify the exit.

I owned one and i regret having to have sold it. I do not know of any ongoing problems with this vehicle. check around your clutch pedal for wires that may be rubbing against it and are grounding out or cut? you can find schematic in manual at parts store and i recommend buying one for your own good. They are a wealth of information about your vehicle.
