Question about 1990 Honda Civic

After replacing the water pump I think that the timing slipped one notch one way or the other. How can I check this?

Use a timing light..itll help you determent if its on or off..cause the cam has to match the cranks position...

I just had the water pump and timing belt replaced on my 94 honda. He Crunk up the car and, the engine is shakey and it's missin. Could it be the spark plug? Help

It sounds like the engine is misfiring which could be a spark plug or is most likely a spark plug lead not refitted correctly or the timing belt itself has slipped a notch or so when being installed. It would be extremely co-incidental for a spark plug to fail and cause this fault during a job like this.

Belt slipped off leaked antifreeze can u replace belt and still drive it

do not drive it or head gasket will fail and will cost you more money to fix i think your water pump broke.

94 caddy has power but wont crank over

Hey there guy. I have a 95 deville and I have had every problem u can name. But ur problem could b a number of things. I'm just gonna name every reason mine did that. The a/c compressor locked up and it wouldn't crank until I change out the compressor. The best way to check that is to pull the belt off and try to crank it. If it cranks then that ur problem. Another thing is the timing. The process of checking that is a lil complicated so I'll explain it later. Also there's 1 instance where the teeth on my flywheel were chipped off and when the starter hit the flywheel in that certain spot the engine would seize when I tried 2 crank it. Now back too the timing. Check all of ur plug and wiring to make sure they are firing in the right sequence. If that rite, then next is making sure the pistons are firing in time with that sequence. There are some notches on the water pump that will help with this. Preferably remove spark plug on piston 1 and take a hanger and stick it in where u took the spark plug from. On that car that would b the spark plug on the far left closest to the radiator. After that is done you're gonna need some to turn the harmonic balance til the notch on it lines up with the 0 in the bottom of the water pump. The hanger is just to help u tell which stroke the piston is on. You Want the stroke to be coming at 0. Don't worry, if u catch it coming down just keep turnin til u catch it comin up. If the notch it at 0 at the piston is not all the way down or all the way up then ur problem is simple. It's ur timing chain. Either it's slipping or its broke

The timing belt is routed around the water pump and if it is slipping off the pulley, your water pump is not correctly cooling your car. Have the timing belt and water pump replaced.

Timing belt replacemnt for 1991 Nissan pulsar

1. Disconnect battery.2. make sure the engine is at top dead center(TDC).3. take belts off.4. Remove pulleys,except for the camshaft pulley..5. Remove timing belt cover.At this point you should see the timing belt and also the water pump,if it's not external.I suggest while you have access to the water pump that you replace it.6. loosen timing belt tensioner and and finally remove belt.On the camshaft pulley,there should be a notch,making sure the notch is at the top of the pulley. 7. Tighten the timing belt,but not too tight.7. Installation is reverse of removal.

Wanting to know the importance of changing a timing belt and what can happen if it breaks or skips a notch

If it skips a notch it will stat running like you need a major tune-up, now if your timing belt breaks you will have major engine damage this is an interference engine which means that the piston will hit your cylinder head valve's and the head will have to be remove to repair, it is recommended to replace the timing belt every 105,000 miles, also I would replace my water pump due to it is driven by the timing belt, if you just replace timing belt and then water pump goes bad you have still have major engine damage, hope this was very helpful.

I think the timing has slipped is there timing

Their is a small hole in both timing wheel's with a treaded hole behind them in the engine turn the mark ot the bottom shaft to the top screw in two screws to both wheel's timing set. 1986 nissan 300zx timing belt replacement, cams moved!

the gears of the timing are marked with little indents on the gears and little dimples in the tin behind the gears on the cams and on the bottom gear (crank shaft) there is on the aluminum housing behind it the top is open and on the front side is a lip that only goes a short distance half inch or so and then it has a notch in that lip and goes back to the lip . thats the bottom timing notch . you line up the notch and the marks and its right ... turn the engin over twice and check it .. it should still be the same .. the timing belt needs to be only so tight so dont over do the adjustment .. half an inch of deflection at twenty pounds of presure .. measure it between the rear of the car cam and the tension adjuster .. half an inch should be measured as its more movement then normaly figured as tight i thought .. good luck .. paul in sw idaho
