I don't have enough information to go by, to help you. PO700 has to do with the transmission. This code communicates that the TCM (transmission Control Module) has detected a fault. This code may be telling you that the neutral safety switch has malfunctioned. But don't quote me. What tests have you performed so far? Please tell me more about the car's symptoms and history. Any recent repairs or anything else you can think of. Is the battery charged? How old is the battery? Has the battery been load tested? If you can not remove the key from the ignition. The first thing I think of is a dead battery, a bad wire or connection. There is a solenoid connected to the ignition switch, that needs battery power to remove the key. There is a different solenoid that is connected to the shift release lever. This solenoid requires the battery to be connected to prevent the lever from being shifted without the ignition key in place. If the battery is disconnected then the shifter can be moved out of park without the key. Please write back and let me know what you have found and done. If there are any lights on the gauge cluster that are on, flashing, or are out and usually are not, let me know that too. I like to check the fuse-box first. Sometimes a blown fuse can cause an unknown failure. Good luck.

I had a similar problem recently with my pickup. It was because of the shifter cable being broken. You may need another person to help you check this out. One person needs to be in the car to move the shifter to the different position while the other person observes the shifter cable at the transmission. Your key won't come out because you are not in park, it may be stuck in reverse or another gear. have the other person at the transmission manually move the gears by hand until you find the park position. Good luck.

P.S
The p0700 code is informational only to alert the tech That there is a problem with the TCM (trans control module). They would have to scan the TCM for a specific problem.

I have a 87 cadillac sedan deville 4.1 did nthe warm and power buttons its ncomin up with trouble code e27 and e52 what doesn this mean and what do i have to do to fix it runs but no power

E26 and E27 which is "Shorted throttle switch signal" and "Open throttle switch signal".
The code E52 just means that the ECM lost power or ground or that someone forgot to clear the code after hooking the battery back up. It could mean a bad computor but not very often. 2 things that come to mind is a bad ignition key or lock cylinder or a faulty neutral safety switch. Try the other ignition key first. Then with your foot on the brake pedal hold the key in the start position and move the shifter slowly from P to D. If it tries to start then the NS Switch is bad or out of adjustment. If it still won't start then you will need to troubleshoot the ignition key/PASS KEY system for an open wire in the steering column. Hope that helps. Bill

2006 Cadillac cts will not start can not take key out shift moves out of park I get code po700

in most vehicles they use a steel wire to connect the turning of the key-ignition with the shifting lever. if this cable is broken or out of adjustment, it could cause a problem like that. just an idea.

Hey Bambi. GM just issued a huge recall in 2006-2014 vehicles. Search GM 2014 recall to see if your car is included. I know the recall had something to do with the ignition.

Dodge 2002 stratus 2.4liter codes po016 p0700 ,po562,what could these mean & how do you fix

lets start with po562, this is a transmission code with low voltage reading at trans solenoids, for this code test your battery and alternator,
the next code po700, this code is to tell you that there is a transmission code stored in the transmission module, which could be the po700. but sccanning the trans module may be a good idea to check for other codes, i assume at this point you are having transmission problems? as far as these codes i would check all fuses and connectors going to transaxle(transmission). you may have internal problems, as we know these chrysler transmissions are junk but you may have bad connection or bad wire to transaxle controller.
last code po016 this code i would check first, i have worked on a few of these that had po016 which means crank and cam correlation . this means the crank and cam are not aligned meaning worn chain , these 2.7 engine... or cam gear spun. testing this ,you will need to know about car repair or you could damage the engine if it isnt already.

Engine will not turn over or start when in park with key on.

You linkage is working properly it sounds like, especially if the indicator for "D, R, N", etc are lining up. However the linkage or the neutral safety switch may need to be adjusted. More than likely, it's your neutral safety switch.

The brake pedal release has nothing to do with the neutral safety switch when switching gears.

The brake pedal release is just a safety to prevent you from pushing the gear shifter accidentally. Actually, you should be able to start the truck without holding the brakes.

If the neutral safety switch is bad or misaligned, it'll do exactly what you're describing. If pulling it down in neutral starts the truck, then that's a sure indicator.
