Better yet-- what have you done?

Do you not have a repair shop you have used for
years or decades?

Have you done any testing at all-- yourself?

Testing, that is the only answer to finding a problem

You say it cranks but you have a no start condition

You check for the fuel pump running
You check fuel pressure with a gauge
You check for spark or injector pulse

What changed from the last time it started & ran okey?

Hello, I would replace the fuel filter. Sometimes the sediment gets sucked up by the fuel pump when run out of gas and clogs the fuel filter. Good luck.

If a starter is able to crank the engine but it won't start you usually have either an electrical or fuel problem. It's also remotely possibly that it's compression.

If an engine has proper fuel, spark and compression, it will start when you crank it. So your challange is to find out which part isn't working right. Start with fuel. Spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while someone tries to start the engine. If it starts briefly when you're spraying starting fluid, you probably have a fuel delivery problem. That could be injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, relay, fuse... who knows what until you check into it.

If it doesn't start with starting fluid, check the spark. Pull a plug wire and attach it to a spare sparkplug and set the plug on a solid metal part of the engine. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch the plug. If you have a good spark, it might just be out of timing.

In any case, you'll need to start isolating the problem. Find out which part isn't working then you'll know what to replace/repair.

Car wont start

Does it have spark at the spark plugs. If it has spark is it getting gas. Try spraying a little starting fluid in it, does it try to start? Then it isn't getting fuel. Is the fuel pump running when the ignition is first turned on? Fuel pump relay, fuse, fuel pump itself. Just telling you some things to check so people can give a better informed answer.

How much fuel pressure is needed? I can not hear the pump but when I crank the engine fuel comes out of fuel rail. Car starts and dies right away

30-40 psi. th epump should run for 2 seconds when turning the key on, then run when engine is cranking and/or running.

Have you checked the fuel regulator and the pressure from the fuel pump to ensure it is not weak. In addition, you might want to check and see if fuel is going into the cyl. the catalytic converter may be plugged based on the year of the car. To check this you could pull the o2 sensor out of the exhaust and see if it keeps running, realize it won't run at 100%. If it is the back pressure will not allow fuel to come into the cyl.

Thanks for choosing FixYa Chris and welcome. Since you already have tested fuel pressure and changed the MAF, I would suggest changing your oxygen sensors. This is why. If the fuel pressure is correct, then there shouldn't be a bad fuel injector or clogged filter. The MAF can cause this issue, but since it is new, you know it isn't. Since you have the hard start and the problem goes away after the vehicle warms up a little, it would appear that one of the oxygen sensors or all are defective. Isn't code 0171 for the O2 sensor? I believe so but I am not 100% sure.

I have a 1991 dodge ram250 van. When the engine warms up, it dies and the oil light comes on. When I check the oil, it is full. What it is the issue, and how do I correct it?

Anytime and engine dies, or is off, while the ignition key is still in the "run" position then the oil warning light should come on since there isn't any actual oil pressure in an engine that isn't running...so I dont think you have any problems related to that. What you'll need to know to diagnose this problem is if after the engine stalls if it is capable of making spark for the plugs when being cranked over. If it won't produce any spark while cranking then I would suspect the Hall Effect pick-up unit located inside/under the distributor cap as they are somewhat prone to failure and often will quit working when warm but will start working again after they have cooled off a bit. If you have spark when trying to restart the engine then its possible you have a fuel related problem such as a weak or failing fuel pump. Good luck, hope this helps a bit!

won't crank????? Starter motor probably. Crank but won't run...fuel pump, crank sensor, coil pack and/or computer.
could also be the relay sending full juice to the starter motor.

modern gas formulas break down rapidly and will clog and deteriorate most fuel system parts. drain your tank. replace fuel pump and strainer sock, fuel filter.its also a good idea to run a quality fuel conditioner for your first tank full
