2004 Chevy Venture 3.4 v6 got a P0480 error code. What are the probable solutions to resolve this problem? Thanks!

If your vehicle's check engine light comes on and after pulling the code you find a P0480 displayed, it (P0480) refers to the engine cooling fan circuit. It is a generic code applying to all OBD II (on board diagnostics) vehicles regardless of make or model.
While you are driving, air in sufficient quantity is passing through the radiator effectively cooling the engine. When you bring the car to a stop no air is passing through the radiator and the engine begins to increase in temperature.
The PCM (powertrain control module) senses the increase in engine temperature through the CTS (coolant temperature sensor) located near the thermostat. When the temperature reaches about 223-degrees F (value depends on make/model/engine), the PCM will command the cooling fan relay to turn on the fan. It does so by supplying the ground to the relay.
There is a problem within this circuit causing the fan to fail to operate allowing the engine to overheat while sitting still or driving at a slow speed. When the PCM attempts to activate the fan and senses the command and the result do not match, the code is set.

I have a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo. Went to emissions test and failed due to code P0480. Mechanic said it was something electrical and is charging $500 to fix. Is that the average cost?

P0480 indicates a problem with the cooling fan control circuit. Without knowing what the exact problem is it would be impossible to say if $500 is an appropriate charge.

Shows a code of P0480, what is this code for thanks

this is a code for the cooling fan. possible causes are a faulty cooling fan relay. shorted or open fan wiring. defective fan motor or internal problem with pcm.It will be hard to test without having a scan tool capable of commanding the relay on so you can check to see if fan is receiving power or relay is closing. to eliminate fan crank car and turn a/c on fan should come on with a/c. if it does then fan is good.the fan relay is in the power distribution box located by the battery. this would be an inexpensive part to try.

P0480 Cooling Fan I Control Circuit Malfunction
-----------------------------

Chrysler has issued a TSB (#18-004-07)containing the fix for an inoperative cooling fan on 2005-06 Caravans and Town & Country vans with the 3.3L or 3.8L engines. The problem usually occurs after driving in heavy snow conditions where snow and ice form at the bottom of the fan shroud and block the fan blade. This condition also sets a P0480 code in the PCM. The fix requires a PCM reflash. If you have an inoperative cooling fan or a P0480 code, check the version label attached to the PCM. If a software update has not been performed since this TSB’s issue date of January 24, 2007, you should have the update performed before you start replacing any parts.
