2003 vw jetta won't start, makes clicking noise in dashboard

My car has been acting funny for a while. here are the symptoms i've noted over the past 2 years:
-twice the car would just completely shut off while i'm driving, i had to pull over, put the car in park, and restart. it would start up just fine -i got into an accident and had it repaired, but every since then the overhead lights would randomly turn on for a second while i'm driving, it does this all the time. -twice it felt like the car would lose power, i'd be pressing on the gas but it would feel like i was breaking, it would only last maybe half a second. -i was driving home 2weeks ago and the radio restarted, the clock reset itself, etc etc but the car kept driving. the electronic immobilizer light came on and blinked the entire way home. when i got home, i restarted the car and the light was off. -today i hopped in and the car wouldnt start, it makes this constant clicking noise coming from behind the air vent on the left side of the dashboard. the radio doesnt work, the overhead lights are very dim, and the alarm won't come on. i dont think it's the battery because i just got a brand new one like 2 months ago.
any ideas? i dont know if all those symptoms are related, and i tried googling this. i like going into the shop knowing exactly what's wrong with my car because when the cooling fan took a ****, they effed it up and wouldn't listen to my suggestions even though i researched it.
please help!

My 2003 jetta seems to be doing the same thing, there's a new battery, the alternator is working...but the light are dim and flicker from time to time, the car won't always start, also when i'm pressing on the gas it seems like its dragging and will die.... wondering if you figured out what the problem was?

FYI.. We had the same exact problem. I thought it was the hazard switch so I bought a new one and switched it out but it got worse. Took it to a specialty mechanic and he fixed it. Happened to be bad circuits on the board. Cost us 850 dollars. Find a German Mechanic that specializes in electric. Shouldn't cost ya more than $90 an hour for them to find the problem.

I had a 2001 jetta and the clicking noise that seems like its coming from the hazard switch is acutally a bad turn signal lever. I removed the steering wheel (following a bently manual) and replaced the turn signal lever and the problem was fixed. Not sure about the electrical issues though. Good luck.

2012 VW Jetta TDI battery won't hold charge and car only clicks and won't start

You need to charge your battery up more. Either get a battery charger or leave the jumper cables hooked up for a longer period of time.
Your battery was probably completely dead. You might even need a new battery...they really don't like to be completely drained.

1996 VW Jetta 4.0 cyl Gauges are going out/Dashlights...

I have the same problem, I own a 1996 VW Jetta Trek Edition,
I suspect the dashboard instrument panel is going out,
or it is the wire harness.
Everytime I hit a bump on the road one of the gauges acts up.
So I am going to replace my whole dashboard instrument panel
and see what happens, if that doesn't work, then it must be the harness

Either you threw a belt or the alternator went bad. Your symptoms sound like alternator...you were running on the battery till you ran out of power.

Where is the heater core located on a 2002 jetta

Hello- on most VW models the heater core - sometimes called a matrix - is buried deep in the dashboard area. It is renowned as being almost the most difficult thing to access as car makers start a production line by putting the heater core on a stand and then build everything else around it.

You would have to remove the steering wheel, then the dashboard... and I would check all other possible faults before trying to replace it. What are the symptoms which make you want to find it?

Let me know. Thanks, D.
