It also has a problem with temp which stays at 0 while heaters are on this rises when they are put off also if you drive car hard but returns to 0 when you stop at lights, I say rises it only goes to the first line but that causes it to start the juddering.

Car judders

Grey smoke is most likely anti-freeze. Usually it is white smoke coming out. This indicates that there is water getting into the combustion chamber. You will need to take the car in to get tested.

The least costly thing to do that is still properly fixing it would be to replace the head gasket. However, you may have a cracked head. In this situation you would need to replace the head. Has the car ever overheated?

Fuel contamination

You likely got a load of water contaminated fuel, diesel fuel absorbs water like a sponge. Drain the fuel or add a water absorbing diesel fuel additive available from many parts stores.

My Ford Focus 2l tdci is smoking heavily by times. The car is for the past week in the workshop and no smoking occurred. How come blue smoke is pouring out of the exhaust only sometimes - then it is g

Hi Gert, If the smoke is more visible during the period after start up in the mornings, I would suspect the valve stem oil seals have become hardened and defective. The oil seeps in slowly passing the seals from the cylinder head. Sounds as though you need a head job. Regards John

Black smoke from exhaust, rough idle, black soot on plugs

signs of a bad fuel pressure regulator-- the vehicle will run rough, the engine will not start ( usually in the mornings,) many times engine starts but stalls shortly after starting. a bad regulator can result in fouled plugs. replacement is only cure. 1- black soot on plugs-2-black smoke from tailpipe-3- running rough-4- stalling, good-day! repost if need be.

2.0 TDCi Ford Mondeo '03 plenty revs but lost most power when driving black smoke with accelerator pedal to floor

Lost power and Black smoke:

You have a Failed MAP Sensor and / or the vacuum line is off or cracked.

The ECU thinks the engine is under full load and is getting all the fuel it can to the engine.

Hope this tip helps guide you to solve this problem.
