2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade reving and high RPM at stop.

2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade. Manual transmission. Just suddenly started reving when at a stop and engine seems to be running at higher than normal RPM. Running rough. Engine light just came on, solid. Suggestions on repairs? Thanks.

Here's the latest from the mechanic. Thoughts? I'm not mechanical and need somone to do the work. Feeling that this guy doesn't know what he's talking about, but... "Your check engine light had no drivability codes active for you rough running concern. It did have a stored code for thermostat rational. There was a service bulletin for a power train control module update that may apply to the symptom you described. My technician recommends replacing the thermostat and flash updating the pcm. I checked for coverage for the recommended repairs and unfortunately they were not covered by your service contract. The recommended estimate for repairs are $363.67. The parking brake is self adjusting and would require disassembly to make any adjustment if possible. Noted on inspection that the spark plugs were not factory plugs and could also have an effect on engine drivability. Tune up interval is due at 60,000 miles. Tune-up cost is $165.30."

Check and see if the EGR valve is leaking, to check this spray water on it at idle, if the water steams off the valve is leaking and is the source of your problem, also are you sure you hooked the new DPFE sensor up right? re-check it..

SOURCE: high pitch whining sound from engine

Check the power steering fluid if its low it could cause this. Also could be alternator, water pump, ac compressor, or idler pulley. My bet would be on the idler pulley, its the one that keeps the belt tension constant. Remove the belt and check this pulley for slack also spin it by hand.
Good luck, dont forget to rate.

Why are my 2006 liberty abs, traction control and ESP BAS lights on?

Read your owners manual

Don't have one,can't find it,never read it, or anyone's
owners manual

Why,why I ask-- after 34 years of having computers on all
vehicles-- is ANY Vehicle issue any different from the last ?

Same process every time

Check the battery
Check for OBD Codes
Diagnose those codes

Do not install any parts based on codes

Find a problem,then the solution

Need a repair shop

No one without decades of experience, can work
on today's technology

You do not even need to pull codes to use Google,
to ask these questions & see what abs, trac, esp, are

I have no dash lights in my 2006 jeep liberty renegade. I cant see a fuse for this. what else could it be

Most likely, you have a dial or switch to adjust the brightness of the dash lights. Make sure it is not turned all the way down. Also, on some Chrysler vehicles, you are also able to override (turn off) the overhead interior lights by turning it all the way down, so you can leave doors open without draining the battery. If that is not it, there is a fuse for your dash lights. Refer to your owner's manual for the fuse position in the fuse block, as well as the correct type of fuse and amperage rating.

2006 jeep liberty sounded an alert when I put the key in

The common reasons for this to happen are the lights are on and the door is ajar, you may have a defective door ajar/open switch that is signaling the system to set off the buzzer. You must have the system control computer scanned to test these switches.
