I was dealing with the same code, no activity in bank 1 sensor 1 on my 2005 Mitsubishi outlander. I also have a problem with my instrument cluster. The lights work, but the gauges only function once in a while. For the most part, they dont work. I tried replacing the ground with no success. Any thoughts??

SOURCE: Check engine (outline of engine

  • P0053 HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
  • P0135 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
  • Possible Solutions
    • Repair short or open or high resistance in wiring harness or harness connectors
    • Replace oxygen sensor (cannot repair open or short that occurs internally to sensor)

What this means is that the first O2 sensor either has a fault inside of itself or the wire has been damaged. Have the vehicle inspected and quite possibly the O2 sensor replaced. This can create poor fuel economy and long term damage if not addressed. The part can run somewhere between $75 (for an aftermarket replacement such as Bosch which is very good) - $150 for a dealer replacement plus labor. Quite a minor repair but does need to be done. If you wish to tackle this yourself, let me know.

    I have a code of P0135 and P0030 are these oxygen sensor in a 06 saab 9x-7

The code P0135 is a fault code for the o2 sensor before the catalytic converter.Replace the o2 sensor and then reset the computer and it should be fine afterwards. The check engine light should stay off then.

There is a fault with the inbuilt heater in the oxygen sensor, before the catalytic converter, on the exhaust pipe the same side of the engine as cylinder 1. The oxygen sensor has four wires within the cable sheath to the top of it. Two of the wires will share the same color. These wires supply power to an internal heating element wire within the sensor. Follow the cable from the oxygen sensor to the connector, you can do a lot testing here. Check the resistance between the two 'same coloured ' wires. The resistance is low, somewhere between 1 and 10 ohms. If there is no continuity (infinite resistance) then this is the fault and the sensor needs to be replaced. The codes: P0030 the oxygen sensor heater relay is at fault P0053 Oxygen heater resistance error P0135 Sensor 1 bank 1 error You are looking at replacement. A further confirmation take the connection from sensor 1 bank 1 and swap it with the sensor 1 bank 2 on the other side of the engine. The codes should 'transfer' and show P0036; P0059 and P0141.

Yes. In all likelyhood replacing the one sensor should fix it although there are a few other potential causes to be aware of. More info - P0134 - P0135
