SOURCE: A4 steering lock does not engage and car won't turn over

The steering locks don't necessarily engage when the key is removed, I always turn the wheel before exiting to engage it. There are several positions that will allow the pin to lock in but if between these, it may seem that it isn't locked.

SOURCE: audi A4 key will not come out after turning engine off

I'm not qualified to answer this, but the Audi doesn't let the key come out when the car is in drive/reverse etc. - maybe you have a switch problem in your gear shifter?

SOURCE: audi A4 key will not come out after turning engine off

I had this as well, but you just have to wait a second. You can't remove it to quickly, the car takes a second to essentially unlatch the key.

SOURCE: Hi, I have an ignition

this is one of two problems, first it may be a bad ignition cykinder lock or the ignition switch itself, you will need to remove the cylinder lock this is the key part of the ignition, make sure nothing is broken, if thats fine then remove and replace the electrical ignition switch, hope this helps.

SOURCE: placed key in the ignition

on the steering column, under the dash is the switch, it may need some adjustment, if the key is turning as much as it did before problem started. There is a rod that is actuated when the ignition key is turned.

Ignition switch will not engage/turn to start car

Hi Beth usually when shifter is stuck there is a locking mechanism and keeps shifter from engaging unless brake is depressed to release the lock. If you hear a clicking sound when pedal is depressed then switch is probably ok and its probably the steering wheel lock. First try with your spare key to start the vehicle(old key may be worn ). If that doesn't do it then try with WD 40 a very little in ignition key hole or on the key work it slowly and see what happens. If none of these suggestions work its probably the steering wheel lock and that requires surgery. Keep me post best of luck

MY ignition wil not turn. I have tried every lubricant the parts store recommended. How do I replace it without having to spend so much money. I have a 2001 ford escape.

Hello,
When did this happen? Have you tried turning the steering wheel to one side (then try to turn the key) or the other side (then turn the key)? If your steering wheel is kinked a little bit the key will not turn. Use a little force and turn the steering wheel one (holding the wheel turn the key) way then the other (holding the wheel turn the key) trying the key each turn. Don't be afraid to use a little force. The best thing to use in an ignition is graphite (just a little in the ignition)
Regards, Tony

My key wont turn in the ignition. it is locked up. My key wont turn in the ignition.

Try turning the steering wheel back and forth as you try to turn the key. I know it should be locked but sometimes kinda using a little force will unlock the ignition switch. I hope this helped you good luck.

Key will not turn in ignition????

Try turning key around or use a spare key, make sure steering wheel isn't being forced against the internal lock. Are the wheels against a curb or object? if so turn steering wheel to relieve pressure on ignition lock.
other wise lock cylinder maybe worn out and will need replaced. Good luck!

Key stuck in the ignition. Position indicator

Hi there,
try turning the wheel to the right/left while turning the key in the ignition. You have to apply some force. Your car is probably outliving its road life.

Ignition key won't turn. gear can't be shifted to neutral.

Check to insure that you have the correct key. If you do, spray a little WD-40 on the key, insert it and try it again. If it won't turn, turn the steering wheel as far back and forth as you can and try the key again, repeat until the key turns. The problem is that the ignition lock is slightly out of alignment, a common problem. Usually a little patience and a little more force and it will turn.

I have a 2001 nissan frontier and the key is in the lock position in the ignition. how do i unlock and start the car.

If the wheel was turned a certain way to engage the wheel lock when turned off, turn the wheel all the way to the right or left while trying to turn the key. Chances are the column lock is catching preventing you from turning the key. You may have to use force but do not use too much force if it does not seem like it will give.

It should "pop" free while turning on the wheel.

Ignition key

I had a similar problem with another vehicle. I got a pair of needle nose and pushed the key in and turned to the lock position. do NOT place too much force. you may break the key.my vehicle has a little long button you press to make it go to the lock position. If yours does too. you need to push it or else it will not turn all the way to the lock position.kind of wiggle the key without too much force.
