It sounds like the last gear in your transmission may not be engaging. Caravans are actually famous for tranny problems. Furthermore, be sure to check your transmission fluid while your vehicle is idling. That ensures accuracy. But you may have to get someone to physically look at it to ensure your problem gets solved. Kind of risky diagnosing something so big through typing.

I have fix this problem before it was my boss truck the problem was with the intake leak it was sucking air trow the intake try get a piece or hose and get close to the intake and see if your heard some sucking noise and also I did replaced the mass air flow sensor was bad and is on top of the electronic carburator injectors but when the air flow sensor is bad your truck don't seems to be stable at low rpm's and they do the same thing with an intake air leak so look for those 2 problems you may have only 1 of this cyntom but 1 is enough

SOURCE: the idle goes high and low

there was a tsb on those for the neutral switch. it can cause all sorts of funky problems. usually you get a check eng. light with egr code and imrc code. can cause erattic idle, stalling, and alot of confusion. it is located behind a bracket under the transmission. you can check continuity wile putting the shifter in and out of gear. also there in a tsb on the clutch pedal switch that can do the same thing. you can look under the dash and make sure that the rubber stopper is completely engaging an diengaging the switch, and you can check continuity there as well. hope this helps you... dustang

change plug and wire if its been a while most cars have 90000 miles platinum plugs in them.but the wires wear before plugs.so change plugs and wires.+clean fuel injectors .change fuel filter and air filter.if car still run rough your idling to low.have idling check .

Revs seem higher than normal in my 2005 Suzuki Swift Sport (3.3rpm in 5th @ 100km/hr) - is this normal? I also have a really high fuel consumption rate


2 issues,
1: MPG, you failed to say MPG, 15mpg? or 39? is 39 low?
what MPG? you never said it?

2: rpm cruise. (what drive line, A/T M/T ?) what tranny?
first google hit , is this it? this yours?
engine: 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol, 75 kW/133 Nm
Transmissions: 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, FWD

3300 RPM in 5th and 100km
if you wish to now what is normal, find the final drive ratio, listed in the FSM. Id say this is normal. typical of tiny engines, with low torque.at lower RPMs.

if you have the A/T and IF the trannywere to slip, the TCM will infact throw DTC codes, telling you it did.
IS IT? (scan tools show you this fact as might that glowing CEL lamp on the dash, on driving.

RPM
my 1.6L spins 3000 RPM , at below tranny options valve counts.
54/59mph (104km/hr = 59) 5sp MT.
64.6 4sp A/T (goes fastest due to more aggressive OD + axle ratio is lower.)
56/.53 2sp A/T
see how drive line effects RPM? so will your cars options.

Idle is high at start - 1800 rpm. Seems like excessive white smoke from exhaust. Put into reverse and back out of driveway it has a regular shudder (bump bump bump) but not hard metal grinding sound.....


white smoke out of the exhaust would be a sign that it is burning coolant... if it goes away after it warms up, it could just be condensation inside the exhaust pipe. 1800 rpm is a very high idle, maybe have your IAC motor on the throttle body checked... check engine light? if so have the code read at your local auto zone.

Computer diagnosed o2 sensor, but problem is worse since changing, engine reves for about 1/4 mile before shifting


Check the transmission. The O2 was a problem but wasn't the root cause of teh problem. Also check the compression on all cylinders to make sure it is within 10 to 15 lbs of compression on each cylinder. ie If you have 135 psi on cylinder 1 all the cylinders should be between 125 and 150 psi. Extremely high or low psi on anyone cylinder when compared to the rest will cause this problem. You have described a situation where the motor is only running on 3 cylinders in a 4 cylinder motor or 4 to 5 cylinders in a 6 cylinder motor. The higher RPM is needed to get the same speed and result as a lower rpm in a motor using all cylinders on the motor.

If there is a blockage in the engine breather, that can cause this to happen and if not corrected, in a diesel, can cause runaway and it will destroy itself.

if you drive on hills at high rpm ur engine temp. will surely shoot up due to the load on ur engine while trying to gain the desired speed/ u should not drive uphill with high rpm try to maintain low speed with low rpm

Power steering problem when moving slow or rpm drop


no it is the power steering pump. the pump is worn so at low rpm or low speeds it is real tough to steer. but when the rpm is picked up the steering gets easier.

Also check belt tension but at high rpm speeds the belt would slip and squel real loud. so i would point the problem to the power steering pump.
