It entirely depends on your model of car, but usually you don't need anything special. Most headlights can be accessed from underneath the bonnet in front of the engine. Wear gloves if you have them and avoid touching the bulb with your bare skin to avoid getting grease on the glass. Example videos can easily be found on youtube (such as VW video attached).

Running headlights don't work, but bright lights do. Could this be a bad fuse or is the entire light unit run from one fuse??

I have had this problem for over a year and a half and the middle/bright lights can be cut on,but i have to hold the switch in to keep them on. The parking lights stay on all the time,so i assume it's a "running" setup. I've had the light "switch" replaced for about $450 and then the guy tells me..."oh,it's the "relay" that needs to be replaced",but releases the car to me as if it's ready to go?? The fuse is still good, but not sure about the bulb. Guess you can't assume a crooked mechanic is going to check that, right??
anyway,thanks for the input.
take care-

How to get headlamp out from ford fiesta 03

If you're just replacing the bulb, you access it from the rear of the headlight assembly. Just sqeeze the nylon locking device, and turn it counter clock wise, then pull the bulb out, and replace.
