Question about 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Is code 846 a sensor problem or could it be a bad torque converter
I doubt the problem is the torque converter. Three digit codes are brand-model specific.
Code 846 for Chrysler products means the transmission control module has discovered a problem with one of the internal pressure sensors. The problem could be the sensor, the control module, or internal damage to the transmission.
The diagnostic steps for the code would need to be carried out to find the actual problem. You may need a shop manual and special tools to do the testing.

SOURCE: 2002 pt cruiser Camshaft Sensor
change the crankshaft positon sensor in the rear of the engine above the oilfilter. Also check the wiring to this sensor, they have a problem shorting out. You have to change the camshaft and crankshaft sensors at the same time. Make sure you give your car a major tune up. Did you check yor starter?.........runjoe

I had a similar problem with my car. It turned out the O2 sensors were fine and the issue was a leak in the throttle body causing the engine to run lean. If you have an ODB2 scanner you can look at fuel trims, etc and will be able to tell.
