Question about 1997 Ford Explorer AWD

Clicking noise behind the glove box

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer eddie baurer, awd It has a clicking noise and I found out where it's coming from, but am at a loss as to what the part is called. The connector that it goes into sits on the heater housing directley behind the glove box. It has about seven wires coming out of a connector. I unplugged this and the loud annoying clicking stopped. My question is what is this transparent box called so that I can replace it. Also the air conditioning unit does not put out enough cool air at higher speeds, I know that it probably need recharging but the fitting that I think is the one to recharge it is not the same kind that comes with the recharge kit. Any help will greatley be appreciated.

The little box is called the blend door actuator. It is an inexpensive fix, and you should be able to do it at home. There are a lot of online step by step guides to fix it! Good luck, i hope it helps, i am having the same issue!

No A/C coming out of dash. It works through defrost vents and floor. Heard noise while driving: sounded like it was under dash. Chas.

Replace your blend door and actuator for the blend door and everything will work fine after that. This is a fairly common problem with all fords. The location is behind the glove box.

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

My 1997 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer v8 AWD makes a really deep ticking/clicking sound when running. It's hard to describe the sound, but it's almost as if you can hear each piston cranking. As I accelerate...

It could be rod knock: if so, plan on an engine change/rebuild. On my 97 F 250, 5W motor oil is recommended,so you can't put in heavier oil. But that's not a solution. Something mechanical is askew.

I have a all weather system or a all temperture system. i can not change between heating and air conditioning

On top of the blower box,in,behind the glove box(lay the lid down towards the floor)look to the left, towards the middle of the vehicle, and there is a flat, white,or black rectangle shaped box mounted to the blower box, this is the temp door actuator motor,it has gone bad.

I get cold air instead of warm air

Check for a bad temp door actuator motor ,it is behind the glove box,on top of the blower box, toward the center of the vehicle.

Clicking noise under the glovebox

It may be a relay clicking. You can test the relay with an ohmmeter or multi-tester. Have you noticed any components not working?

Vibrating noise coming from either the engine or underneath

When the constant velocity joints are worn out. this is what u ussually get.

car vibrates if one or both are worn out. and vibration will increase as speed increases.

car will make a popping or tapping or clicking sound when steering.

Or they might just need lubrication too.

hope this helps XD
