Pull the thermostat connecter out and see if the fan response if so try to check your thermostat with another one and see if fan spin if doesnt
than try to locate fan relay and change see if the fan spin..if doesn't than pull the top radiator hose out from the engine...start the engine while filling the water in the radiator..you will see if the water flow like rushing out..if its flow like normal flow coming slowly than your water pump if bad..change it than your ride will be back to normal....thermostat cant trigger the fan because cant get enough heat from the water its self...hope that this piece of infotmation will put smile to your face

Fan motor does not run when engine is running, when engine switch off then fan motor runs, why?

The car is cooled by the water pump pumping the coolant and the movement of air through the radiator the fan is on a thermostat switch so it cuts in if the tempreture rises, the ignition turns off the water pump so as the water is not moving around the engine the temp rises the fan cuts in as to not damage the engine.

My radiator fan is not working

Hello Bob horse,

The problem could be the radiator fan relay, or your "temperature sensor". Try switching the radiator fan relay with another identical relay out of the fuse block. If fan runs when engine temp gets to the right point, you found the problem. If not, it's more than likely your temp. sensor.

It overheats when in traffic ior when it is idling

I have fixed my own 2002 Jeep Cherokee twice for the overheating issue. Overheating can be caused by a number of different problems, but one of the most notorious problems for the Jeep is the 'radiator fan relay switch'. When the temperature thermostat goes over 210, it tells the relay switch to turn on the radiator fan to cool down the engine. If that relay switch isn't working, the fan never turns on and thus your engine overheats. Here's a simple test to check if this is your overheating problem:
1. Start up your Jeep, open the hood, and let it run to the point where the temperature gauge on your dashboard creeps past 210.
2. Once it goes past 210, go over to the engine and see if the radiator fan kicked on. (the radiator fan is right behind the grill, circular with big plastic blades) If yes, then the relay switch is working. If no, then you probably need to replace the relay switch or the radiator fan motor is bad. But more than likely, it's the notorious relay switch.
3. Turn off the Jeep asap to avoid damaging the engine.

You can purchase a 'radiator fan relay switch' from most Jeep dealerships if they have a service dept. It should be around $75.
(I saved over $700 by not taking my Jeep to an auto shop to fix this) To change out the relay switch, you need to take off the passenger side front headlight. There's a black plastic guard behind the headlight and the relay switch is located under/behind that guard. If your Jeep ever experienced this problem before, you may see a cut-out where someone replaced this part before. If there's no cut-out, you can check out this link to see a picture of where to cut.

Once you switch out the part, you should be golden.

1994 Mits 3000gt. The radiator fan will not come

there is a heat sencing unit on the fan or radiator which cuts in and out to let the engine maintain operating temperature. If this is faulty, the fan will never go on and the car will overheat.

If you can not find this switch let me know.
