Fuel pump driver module

DOHC 2.0L engine. Cranks, strong spark, no start. DTC 1233 indicating Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM). Replaced FPDM and car started up immediately. Ran for about 15 minutes then cut off. Cranks, strong spark, no start, DTC 1233 again indicating FPDM failure. can something be shorting out the FPDM??

Before replacing the FPDM I checked fuses. relays fuel inertia switch, and cleaned ground connection points on right and left fenders under the hood, near the inertia switch and under the back seat near the FPDM. I rechecked fuses relays and inertia switch after second failure.

Could have a problem with the fuel pump, partially blocked or seized and drawing too much current thru the FPDM. Also, pinched fuel line on either side of the pump or v dirty fuel filter could also cause pump to work too hard. Can you put a smaller fuse inline with pump motor, so that it blows before FPDM is damaged?

SOURCE: I have a 2002 For Taurus with Engine Code 1233

does the car still run? There are many causes for this code it can be pretty complicated. could even be a faulty computer. If it wont run check the fuel inertia switch. it is a switch that cuts out power to your fuel pump if you get into an accident or a fender bender. It is in your trunk on the right hand side. it is like a reset button.

Battery cranks but why is there no gas smell?

Any lights lit or flashing on the instrument cluster when cranking the engine . SECURITY car an padlock symbol ? Some anti-theft system will stop injectors from squirting fuel if there is a problem . No lights check fuel pressure , go to you tube an check out videos on how to do it . Ford , Lincoln , mercury use a fuel inertia cut off switch ,cuts Battery power to fuel pump . All so your vehicle may have a FPDM - fuel pump driver module , the engine computer sends signals to the FPDM to tell it how fast to make fuel pump spin .Given the complexity of your vehicle an the special tools to diagnose it , I strongly suggest you take it to the dealer or a ASE certified repair shop . That's just my professional opinion .

P1233 code

ford 1233
lost spark? on 1 or all cylinders?
did you google this? 18,000 hits. just for this.
example

P1233 - Fuel System Disabled or Offline
Description:

The PCM monitors the fuel pump monitor (FPM) circuit from the fuel pump driver module (FPDM). With the key on, the FPDM continuously sends a duty cycle signal to the PCM through the FPM circuit. The test fails if the PCM stops receiving the duty cycle signal.

Possible causes:

Inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch needs to be reset
Open FPDM ground circuit
Open circuit to FPDM PWR RLY
Open FPDM PWR circuit
Open or shorted FPM circuit (engine should start)
Damaged IFS switch
Damaged FPDM PWR RLY
Damaged FPDM
Damaged PCM

What engine size ? Did you check for vacuum leaks at the intake manifold . How many mile's on the engine ? Oil in cylinders ? weak piston rings , what kind of compression reading's ? Do .compression testing .Have it hooked up to a factory or professional scan tool to check engine sensor data . Unless you like just replacing parts and making part stores rich . Your vehicle also has electronic fuel control , fuel pump driver module ! There is a fuel pressure sensor on the fuel injector fuel rail ! Tell's the PCM how much pressure ! 39 psi is good engine off or idling .

Ford Electronic Returnless Fuel System Diagnosis Part 2

Fuel Pump Driver Module Applications
The fuel pump driver module (FPDM) communicates diagnostic information to the powertrain control module (PCM) through the Fuel Pump Monitor (FPM) circuit. This information is sent by the FPDM as a duty cycle signal. The three duty cycle signals that may be sent are listed in the following table.

How do I fix code P1237 on ford taurus sel

P1237 - Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Malfunction

Electronic Returnless Fuel Systems (ERFS) utilize a Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) to control fuel pressure. The PCM uses a Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (FRP) for feedback. The PCM outputs a duty cycle to the FPDM to maintain the desired fuel rail pressure. During normal operation, the PCM will output a FP duty cycle from 5% to 51%. The FPDM will run the fuel pump at twice this duty cycle, e.g. if the PCM outputs a 42% duty cycle, the FPDM will run the fuel pump at 84%. If the PCM outputs a 75% duty cycle, the FPDM will turn off the fuel pump.

If the FPDM does not out any diagnostic signal, (0 or 100% duty cycle), the PCM sets a P1233 DTC. This DTC is set if the FPDM loses power. This can also occur if the Inertia Fuel Switch is tripped.

If the FPDM outputs a 25% duty cycle, it means that the fuel pump control duty cycle is out of range. This may occurs if the FPDM does not receive a valid control duty cycle signal from the PCM. The FPDM will default to 100% duty cycle on the fuel pump control output. The PCM sets a P1235 DTC.

If the FPDM outputs a 75% duty cycle, it means that the FPDM has detected an open or short on the fuel pump control circuit. The PCM sets a P1237 DTC.

Fix the Ford P1233 FPDM Fuel No Start Problem Here's a fix for that no-start condition on 2004-2008 Ford trucks. The FPDM (fuel pressure driver module) usually shows up as a P1233 diagnostic trouble code (OBD-II) when the truck's codes are read. A Ford P1233 code is described as Fuel Pump Driver Module Offline or Fuel System Disabled or Offline. A search on Google for Ford P1233 shows that this P1233 DTC code is not limited to being a problem on just Ford trucks. Others with the Focus, Mustang, Town Car, etc. also experience this problem.
You may experience stalling, no-starts, random no-starts, or other potential symptoms. A quick search over at MotorcraftService.com (a Ford service web site), they offer the following possible causes if the P1233 code is triggered:
  • Inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch needs to be reset.
  • Open FPDM ground circuit
  • Open circuit to FPDM PWR RLY
  • Open FPDM PWR circuit
  • Open or shorted FPM circuit (engine should start).
  • Damaged IFS switch.http://www.fordf150.net/images/articles/fpdm4.jpg try link hope this helps it may be it would hate for you to change fuel pump and it not be fuel pump
