We automataclly thought it was the starter and replaced it, as well as tow truck driver check it and he also though it was starter. have not checked the engine grounds.

your shift cable is stretched or broke. try starting in nutral. if this doesn't work you need to adjust or replace shift cable. this is a very easy fix but it should start in neutral.

2005 pontiac montana won't start

Try tapping on the side of the starter with a pry bar and a hammer. Do not hit too hard though. Hitting too hard will damage the starter. If the engine starts try cleaning the electrical contacts on the starter. If the problem persists replace the starter.

it sounds like the starter motor could be worn out, or could be as simple as the main pos wire is bad or corroded

My 2005 montana sv6 wont start. it just makes a fast ticking noise that comes from a part that looks like it comes from the air intake. what could the problem be? I beleive it to be a starter problem

Sounds like a low battery to me. Try jump-starting it or connect a battery charger to it for a while to make sure the battery is fully charged, then try to start it again....If it is in fact a starterproblem, you will not be able to jump-start it. If your battery has not been replaced in the past...it is overdue. (Most batteries only last 4 to 4-1/2 years)

It is probably your starter. If it doesn't make a noise when you turn it, starter. Check fuses as well.

Check that battery connections are clean and check engine ground. Also find what's clicking and make sure it's well connected and working (likely the relay you are looking for.)
