Fault Code Definition

  • Intake Air Temperature Circuit High Input
What does this mean?
The Intake Air Temperature Sensor measures the rise and fall of the air temperature inside the Intake Manifold. This provides critical data needed for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to control the Air Fuel Ratio, the Ignition Spark Timing and many components of the Emission Control Systems.
Code P0113 sets when the voltage signal to the PCM from the Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit stays above 4.5 volts while the Coolant Temperature Voltage readings are rising and falling within an appropriate range.
Symptoms
  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • In some cases, the engine may be hard starting and/or get poor fuel economy
  • Poor engine performance/hesitation on acceleration
Common Problems That Trigger the P0113 Code
  • Defective Intake Air Temperature Sensor
  • Dirty air filter
  • Defective Mass Air Flow Sensor
  • Faulty or corroded Intake Air Temperature Sensor wiring or connections
Common Misdiagnoses
  • Intake Air Temperature Sensor is replaced when the real cause is a dirty air filter
  • Intake Air Temperature Sensor is replaced when the real cause is a poor connection or chafed wiring
  • Intake Air Temperature Sensor is replaced when the real problem is in the Mass Air Flow Sensor
  • P0113 Diagnostic Theory for Shops and Technicians
  • When diagnosing a P0113 code, it is important to record the freeze frame information and then to duplicate the code setting conditions with a test drive while paying close attention to engine load, throttle position, RPM, and road speed on a data streaming scan tool. As you drive the vehicle, compare these values to the Intake Air Temperature Sensor PID or parameter ID. The Intake Air Temperature Sensor voltage values should rise and fall with changes in engine temperature. Compare the Intake Air Temperature or IAT readings to the Coolant Temperature Sensor readings, as they should move in tandem with each other. However, the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor will have a much higher temperature range.
Check the IAT sensor connector with the key on and the engine off. There needs to be a steady 5 volt reference voltage and a very good ground. Find and use the proper engine performance wiring diagram to discern the proper color and position of these wires in the connector.
It never hurts to do a key on-engine off voltage output test of the IAT sensor. Typically, I CAREFULLY use a heat gun to raise the temperature of the area around the sensor and study the change in values of the Intake Air Temperature. It's important to use the scan tool data stream as this will verify the IAT harness and connections.

SOURCE: THEROMSTAT/ 2002 DODGE DURANGO???

make sure engine is cool then drain coolant by opening the drain plug at bottom of radiator. remove cap from radiator so coolant will continue to drain and when coolant is down enough to pull off upper radiator hose at intake then close drain, then remove two bolts at coolant housing and remove thermostate. clean gasket material from intake and housing and replace with new gasket and thermostate tighten bolts install hose fill rad with coolant water mix 50/50 and run engine with heat on floor until gets hot and you see coolant flowing in rad, install cap

SOURCE: HOW TO INSTALL AMP INTO A FACTORY RADIO IN DODGE DURANGO 2002

You can buy adaptor plugs that allow a simple hook up at most car stereo places.  However, when you increase the power going to the speakers you also have to replace the speakers to handle the higher power or you'll toast them.

SOURCE: 2002 Dodge Durango 4.7L V8 Check Engine Codes

1st try and search for a vaccum leak, due to the fact that these vehicles have had some bad problems with the length of wires and hoses, if there is a vaccum leak in the vehicle somewhere that will trigger other malfunctions in your vehicle. Using a can of starting fluid or Brake cleaner spray lightly spray around our engine til you hear the motor rev-up and the spot you have sprayed will determine where your vaccum leak will be. And then check under your distributor cap for any moisture be sure to take a rag and wipe and residue off. Also check the firing order on your distributor.

SOURCE: check gages light came on driving a 2002 dodge

with engine running check the oil pressure gauge. if it is not reading you will have to check the pressure with an external gauge. the sensor on a v8 is locaterd rear of the engine next to the distributor. No oil pressure will starve the engine of lubrication and cause damage resulting in the knocking .

Intake air Temp on the duct work from air filter to throttle body. If vacuum leak in area it will do that. Make sure vacuum hoses are all connected or sensor plugged in.

Multiple codes on 2002 dodge durango

This many codes sounds like a wiring issue. You need to inspect all the wiring. If you have rabbits in your area, they eat wires. If not then it is likely to be a corroded or loose ground. You need to get a wiring diagram etc.

I have a 2003 Dodge Durango 5.9 8 cyl. I am trying to smog it but the smog check station can't read my Durango's computer to tell if my O2 sensors pass.Would this be the PCM need be replaced ? I...

maybe, maybe not. First thing, does the aux power ( cig lighter) work? if not then most likely the fuse that supplies power to both is bad. Next thing to check is if the connunication port is getting power. If you look at the port under the dash there are two rows of slots. numbering is 1-8 across the top row left to right, and 9-16 across the bottom row left to right. 4 & 5 are ground and 16 is power. Should have 12 Volts, if not and the fuse is good, then you might have a bad PCM.

2002 dodge durango fuse keeps blowing for turning signals

You have a ground problem. Somewhere on the wiring, usually where there is a bind of many cables zip tied together heat from a hot lead wire has cause it to melt another wire which is grounding itself with your other wire causing your bulb to burn or a fuse to pop. Check your wiring...this is going to be pain staking but it will solve your issue. This is the cheapest way to troubleshoot the problem. If your turn signals are parallel to each other check the other bulb, maybe that could be your culprit as well. Change both light bulbs first before you check all the wiring. Cheapest first, let me know. Gabe
