2002 hyundai santa fe transmission will not engage

My 2002 santa fe with automatic transmission suddenly lost engagement from the transmission. If I rev the motor up to 2500 RPM's, then the transmission will engage and I can drive. I got it home but it really seemed to beat the transmission up pretty bad. Wondering if this would be caused by some sensor or if it sounds like I need a complete rebuild.

You might have lost your lower gears, I would have someone look at it to see if your gears are gone or if its just a faulty sensor.

I own a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe and my transmission is stuck in manual mode it won't go past number one I can't get it back over into automatic mode and I want to know what might be the problem

The big question here is how did it work before it got stuck the transmission I mean .
Did it shift OK before it got stuck if no you have a big problem with your trany .
If it worked good then look at the key switch it locks the shift lever so you can't shift it with your foot on the brake or any linkages connecting to this system its all on the steering collum or a linkage to the transmission

Why would my Santa Fe transmission stop engaging

the indicated problem is that the torque converter clutch servo/solenoid has failed
Take it to an accredited professional auto transmission shop for a proper diagnosis and quote
it will be unlikely a box failure , but more like the TCM unit or wiring problem or solenoid failure

ABS braking system engages at slow speeds or while

Are there any malfunction lights coming on? If so then it could be a wheel speed sensor. sometimes people confuse rotor vibration with abs pulsation.

How does the shifting work on 2004 hyundai santa fe.

I assume this vehicle is equipped with an 'AUTOMATIC' transmission?... If so, then the shifting works electronically and is managed by the TCM (Transmission Control Module). The EPA (Environmentlal Protection Agency) and it's adherence with the CAA (Clean Air Act) has mandated manufacturers to develop the technology needed to reduce automobile emissions, and part of that is telling the transmission when to shift (up or down). Therefore, the TCM commands the trans to engage in 1,2,3,4 or when you put the shifter in R to engage reverse. Simple huh?
