garage stated there was no damage to previous flywheel but was making a noise ,as a precaution they changed flywheel ,they also stated that after 2 years old and 33000 miles it was an old car with high milage thus it was more likely to breakdown

Usually when a clutch goes, the parts people won't warranty the clutch, unless you have the flywheel resurfaced, and buy a new pressure plate. I can't imagine how a flywheel could be damaged to the point of replacement, without the clutch itself being severely damaged. No. This is certainly not normal practice. Ask them what damaged the flywheel?

I just bought a Kia Carens Diesel Auto 2003 model LX. Can you tell me if this has a cam belt or a chain? If a cam belt, what are the recommended miles to get a new belt fitted?

check the timing cover and if it is plastic it will be a belt operation. If it is aluminium and sealed off then it will be a chain. Belts are recommended for a change at 60.000 miles (100.000 klms) but this depends on driving conditions ( constant high rpms) and oil on the belts ( oil reduces the servicability of a rubber belt considerably)

Do i have rights if my new clutch lasted just over a year?

Hard to say, you would have to be able to prove that they did not install properly, as opposed to your driving style causing a failure. If the failure was with the clutch material then they will likely state that you have been riding the clutch (keeping your foot on the clutch pedal while driving) or engaging the clutch to slowly and allowing to slip. Your best bet if you are seeking to have it replaced would be to get another independant mechanic to have a quick look.

How often should the transmission be dropped? The dealer says the c servive is every 35000 miles and my garage says every 100000 so i dont want to do it unless it needs it.

you dont have to "drop" the transmission, just change the fluid and filter every 36000 miles. Whatever is costs, it costs. Are you going to listen to some guy in a garage, or the manufacturer of the car? Is the guy in the garage going to help you pay the bill when there are transmission problems? why take a chance?

Gear oil change milage

Dodge recommends changing the gear oil every 15,000 miles. I personally do it every 30,000 miles and use the synthetic 75w-150. Also make sure you get the friction additive from a dealership so you dont get a chatter in the rear end due to the locking differential clutches.
