Question about 1995 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

Need help in removing and replacing cam position sensor in a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. The car does not turn over (still cranks though) when the engine gets hot. A little cool bottled water on the part (and my scalp) and it starts again. But, I know it needs replacing.

Car will turn over, and ocassionally sputter, but not fully start.

If this model has a Cam position sensor, try replacing it. Also having pressure at the test valve on the fuelrail does not mean the injectors are opening and delivering the fuel.

You may be able to borrow a test light for the injector harness through the Loaner programs at autoparts stores. Or use a Voltmeter to any one of the injector harness connectors by disconnecting an injector.

If you use Starting fluid and the engine does better at trying to run, then the injectors are not opening.

Where is locate the camshaft position sensor on 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo limited 4.7 l

The camshaft position sensor is located inside the distributor. It is a hall effect swich, simply remove the distributor cap and the rotor and you can lift it out, unplug and replace.
Have fun but beware a bad crankshaft position sensor can cause a false cam sensor code to be set sometimes.
Good luck.
