Question about 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid

I have a brake problem on my 2005 GMC sierra

My brakes tighten up as I drive. If I stop and depress the pedal hard it releases but will tighten again

    I have replaced the calipers, brake hoses, brake rotors and brake pads. None of this changed the problem

    I have replaced both wheel hub asemblies. There is a rattle in the dash that I can't figure out. It would behind the master cylinder?

    so this must be a firt ever? what other part could I change? when i drive I can feel the engine pull harder . The brake pedal will be tight and the pads are hot. the new pads smoke.

I need to know if the brake pedal gets tight or does the brakes get tight and slow vehicle down as if brakes are being applied.....If it is just the pedal getting tight and hard you have a vacuum Brake Power booster problem....If the brakes are locking slightly this could be a few different things......NEED MORE INFO..and Mileage....

Have you checked the hardware on the disc brakes all the way around, as well as checking the rear pads? Wore out hardware could cause you to require more pressure to get the pads to move, as well as low brakes on the rear. Your braking system sends more pressure to the front of the vehicle because it requires more pressure up there. Less pressure on the rear can cause this to happen. I'm willing to bet the problem from the pedal is coming from the rear brakes somewhere and not the front. The last possibility that I can think if is a problem in the ABS solonoids, they might not be opening up all the way causing you to require more pressure.

When you change the master cylinder it is best to gravity bleed first, then proceed to the pedal technique.

Gravity bleeding is when you just open the valve and let gravity pull the fluid down.

Keep in mind you must "prime" the master cylinder first before installing it, did you do that?

Priming the master cylinder is where you put it in a vise gently, you then take apaptors and screw into the outlets, then take tubes from the adaptors back into the resoirvor. You fill the resorvoir up with fluid and take a 3/8 extension for a socket and push the piston in and out slowly until there are no more air bubbles.

After this procedure you gravity bleed the brakes, then go on to the pedal technique.

Try vacum bleeding with a vacum pump from any parts store. You definitely have air somewhere and vacum bleeding usually works and you can do it by yourself.

My brake pedal will not budge, and a hissing noise present when running


The stop lights won't go out until the pedal is depressed, as there is a switch which is activated by the pedal.

A hard brake pedal is probably caused by a defective servo. The hissing noise is probably an air leak in the servo.

Switch the engine on, open the bonnet (the hood..) and see if you can locate the hissing - that'll probably be in the brake servo area.

1995 GMC sierra vacuum leak when brake pedal is pushed


you mean you hear it WHEN you push pedal ? power booster could be going bad ! check allvacuum lines, sound good ? any trouble with brakes ? hard pedal ? tighten throttlebody mounting bolts ! gaskets do go bad, they get hard, dryout, become brittle, vacuum leak !!! replace vacuum lines if cracked, dryed out, etc.,, you can use a 3 to 4'-0 pc. of hose to listen hissing sounds where vacuum occurs to locate the leak .

I have a 2004 Land cruiser and changed the right rear brake cyl and brake shoes . What is the proper procedure to bleed the rear brake system. Thank you for your help.


  1. Check the fluid level in the reservoir after bleeding each wheel. Add DOT3 fluid, if necessary.
  2. If the master cylinder was disassembled or if the reservoir becomes empty, bleed the air from the master cylinder as follows:
    1. Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder.
    2. Slowly depress the brake pedal and hold it.
    3. Block off the outlet plug with your finger, and release the brake pedal.
    4. Repeat 3 or 4 times.

  3. Bleed the brake starting with the one furthest from the reservoir and then the next furthest, etc.
  4. Depress the brake pedal several times, then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal held down.
  5. At the point when fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.), then release the brake pedal.
  6. Repeat until all the air in the fluid has been bled out.
  7. Repeat the procedure to bleed the air out of brake line for each wheel.
  8. Check the fluid level and add DOT3 fluid if necessary.

What special tool is need to bleed brakes on 1999 gmc sierra? Had to replace all lines due to rust. I can only get the front driver side to bleed. The brake peddle is like steeping on steel. ...


You can actually bleed each caliper at the brake line connection to the caliper...you will need someone to depress the brake pedal, or you can borrow the auto bleed brake pedal tool from your local auto parts store...sounds like you can fix this yourself...the symptom says..."air in lines"...Hope this helps.

Replaced brake line, rotors and pads bled brakes all around and the brakes when the truck is off work but once i start the truck the brake pedal goes to the floor and have no brakes at...


Bench Bleed the M/C first, then do not let it run dry during system bleeding. Parts stores sell a kit that helps installed m/c bleeding.

How to adjust the parking brake cable on a golf 2002


Remove center console extension
  • With parking brake released, depress brake pedal forcefully one time.
  • With parking brake released, tighten cable adjustment nuts until levers (arrow) on brake calipers lift off of stops.
  • Maximum 1.5 mm (0.059 inch) from stop (arrow) is permissible on each side
  • Pull parking brake on 3 times and then release again.
  • Check that both wheels turn freely.

    95 gmc sierra 4X4 brake pedal very hard to push. every time touch brake pedal rpms go up 500, and it hisses on the inside of the cab. any solutions?


    I think I would be looking at the vacuum booster for the brakes having a leak. Block off the vacuum line and try the brakes again. Make sure you have lots of room to stop. If the booster is bad then the pedal will still be hard but the RPM's and hissing should go away. Hope this helps.
