This could be a number of things. First check the fuse. Then check the fan thermostat, relay and anything else in the fan circuit. On many cars where there are 2 fans, the second only comes on with the A/C. I hope this helps you find the problem.

Fan runs after car shut off for about 5-7 min. does not happen all the time?? on my 04 vw tourage

If they're electric fans, that's normal as the fans are cooling the radiator down. If you're still worried about it, the take your car to a radiator specialist or your mechanic.

The coolant fans and radiator fans are new replaced and both fans don't work when car is turn on and car overheats on the Lexus es300.

The air con fan comes on when the air con is engaged, the engine fan comes on only when the engine reaches operation temp. controlled by a temp. switch. on the block or radiator .

Why Temperature while iddling it goes over 90% but while driving it goes lower than 35%

Check and make sure your cooling fans are operating. Air flowing thru the radiator is what removes the heat from the coolant. If the fans are not pulling air thru the radiator when the vehicle is not moving the temperature will rise until the vehicle over heats. But when the vehicle is in motion air is forced thru the radiator removing the heat from the coolant and thus, the vehicle operates at normal temperature.

Mercury sable 1999 24v dohc wagon how to test radiator cooling fans

Locate the thermal cooling fan switch which is usually mounted in the radiator but is sometimes found mounted at the top of the engine. If the switch has two wires, connecting them together should cause the fans to operate.

If the cooling fan thermal switch has three, four or more wires it would be prudent to study a wiring diagram before bridging any pair of contacts but the principle of operation remains the same except there is more than one fan and/or there is two or more stages of operation (fan speeds).

If the fans operate with manual switching it is necessary to carry out a further test by running the engine until it is hot enough to switch the fans on, by ensuring the heater is turned off and if necessary (in cold weather) masking the radiator.

Ideally but less convenient would be removing the switch and suspending it connected to an ohmmeter or similar in slowly heating water with a thermometer, monitoring the point it switches on and comparing it with specifications.

Generally the thermal switch isn't very expensive and in a case of doubt replacement could be preferable.

Why would the water temp go up when running slow or stopped?

You need to make sure the radiator fans are working. It is normal that slow driving causes less air to flow through the radiator, hence the uptick in temperature. that is why the fans are supposed to turn on when temperature reaches a certain point. The fans act to pull air through the radiator, and then blow the air on the engine for more cooling.

Make sure the coolant and the overflow tank are full. Clean any trash, leaves, or debris on the radiator that may be hindering the flow of air. And check your fans for proper operation.

My radiator cooling fans on my 1999 Buick Century will not come on. I have checked the fans and they are good, just getting no power. I have replaced the coolant temp sensor to no avail.

Have you checked to see if a fuse has been blown that operate the fan? Check your fuse box and book for the info concerning your radiator fan or any fan operation. That's a good start.

Radiator fans

I dont know what year model you have but the newer one will run when car is turned off to cool radiator. Maybe you have a radiator problem if this just started to happen. Is the car over heating. Did you check radiator fluid or thermostat. I dont know much about your car and year model but i would do these checks. Maybe radiator needs to be flushed. You can use aluminum brite for to flush. Can buy it at O Reiley's. I had to flush my daughters radiator about 10 times when we bought it used, fithy. Looks brand new. Please dispose of chemicals properly. It is an acid.

Motor over heating and fans not turning on

check coolant level is up to the mark, then locate radiator temp sensor switch ( on the radiator ) and check connections, you can by pass the switch in the wiring plug to ensure the fans work, if fans operate the radiator sensor switches are probably at fault and will require renewal
