Transmission wont shift into 3rd and overdrive
It's normal that won't shift into 3rd and overdrive because you have transmission code it's a default mode
P0730 Incorrect Gear Ratio
P0742 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On
P0218 Transmission Over Temperature Condition
you need to solve those codes first

as you probily know this is a computer controlled trans
what we need to look at is wht the computer is looking at and what it does with the information.
so this thruck is looking at pressures in the trans and speed sensors.
also it looks at your throttle position sensor
you could have a couple of problems that wouldnt show up as a trouble code. like a bad throttle position switch .
telling your computer that you have your foot deep in the throttle calling for a down shift. but i dont like to guess on these things it should be tested .
you caould also have a programming problem with the ecm. and need to be flashed .
my first step would be to test the TPS

transmission shift solenoid is stuck open this is a common vehicle issue in automatics and not particular to any make or model vehicle 15 dollar part and arm and leg for labor if taken in
heres an idea to try
take out the transmission filter and replace with new one make sure to take not of any metal debry in trans pan this indicates the trans had sheered its gears down and a trans rebuild is needed
the transfilter needs to be changed at a certain milage interval they can get clogged up
there is a kit you buy for your truck at any parts store
its an easy change hour of time unbolt trans pan unbolt trans filter and put new one in
kit comes with new seals less than an hour you can do it yourself
to overdrive you would feel a difference in shift badley if it was that something to keep in mind

need more info i had a 1984 chevy half ton and first, second, and third worked fine but lock up didnt work. the problem was there was no vacum at a switch under the hood on the fire wall also your shift linkage could be out of adjustment. try driving down the road and raise up a little on the shifter.

Check both O2 sensor(s) and catalytic coverter.. P0420 means catalyst below threshold. Also check the sensor at the transmission and solenoid.

Check the transmission fluid level to make sure it's at the proper level. Have a transmission shop determine with a scanner that if it's your 3-4 solenoid or the wire harness has gone bad and will need to be replaced. You have a 4L60E transmission and this is common if your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is faulty and needs to be replaced, easy fix, just replace the TPS on the throttle body. Your Electronic Pressure Control valve EPC is faulty due to dirt from dirty transmission oil and filter, or the solenoid has gone bad or the wire harness on the passenger side by the catalytic converter has gone bad from corrosion or loose. Try disconnect the wire harness on that side and cleaning it out with break parts cleaner and reattaching it to see if that helps before you drop the transmission pan to get to the solenoid. The solenoid is around $45.00 and take about 10 min to replace once the transmission pan is replaced so this should cost around $150.00 repair with the oil and filter replaced also have them replace the boost valve "$45.00" with a 0.490" boost valve to bring up the transmission line pressure to help you get more life from your transmission and should be replaced every 60,000 miles as a part of the transmission service.
