Move to dirt, sand, gravel, grass, select 2H and it will now come out.
this is called wide up, on all part time 4wd, and wind up, locks the shifter rails. (never use 4H on dry (no ice) pavement
are you on pavement , you never said, as it is and offroad car.)

Hello chevy87, sorry no clue but I could find out for you. I had part time and all time 4x4, and I much prefer the all time. I don't know why you changed it. 1995 is the best year for Jeep. I am a auto shipper and I have tested 1995 and up. None have changed my mind to venture for a newer Jeep, yet. I was happy with my 1984 wrangler to. I will try to remember to ask about your problem next week with my mechanic. Chat soon. Christina with gnctransport at yho period c...

How do I turn 4wd on?

    • 1 Start your Dodge truck's engine.
    • 2 Turn the electronic transfer case from "2WD" to "4WD Lock" to engage the high range 4WD, if the dodge truck is equipped with an electronic transfer case; otherwise, shift the transfer case lever from "2H" to "4H." The electronic transfer case is located on the instrument panel and is marked with "2WD," "4WD Lock" and 4WD Low." The lever-equipped transfer case is located to the right of your leg and is marked with "2H," "4H" and "4L."
    • 3 Shift the transmission into "Neutral" while the vehicle is either stopped or rolling at 2 to 3 mph to begin engaging in the low range 4WD. Turn the electronic transfer case to "4WD Low," if the Dodge truck is equipped with an electronic transfer case; otherwise, shift the transfer case lever from "2H" or "4H" to "4L."
    Tips & Warnings
    • Indicator lights will come on and alert you that your vehicle is in either the high or low range of 4WD.
    • Do not engage in the low range of 4WD drive if the transmission is in gear; you must shift to "Neutral" first.
    • Many Dodge trucks allow you to shift from 2-wheel drive to the high range of 4WD at up to 55 mph--consult your truck's manual to ensure that this is possible. Do not exceed 55 mph while engaged in the high range of 4WD. Do not exceed 25 mph while engaged in the low range of 4WD.
    • Do not engage in 4WD unless you are on slipper or rocky roads.

Transfer case shifter is locked up in 2H on 4x4 montero sport 2002

Mine did the same thing so I removed the center console and then the boot around transfer case shifter and the shifter it self.
This is when I discovered a broken linkage that had wedged itself between the 4L & 4H shafts in the transfer case. I removed the broken parts and reassembled and it will shift between 2H & 4H but not 4L until the broken plastic linkage is replaced. Found your post while lookin for the replacement part so I thought I would try to help. Good Luck

This might sound like a silly question but did you put the truck in neutral before you shifted into 4L ? Reason being transfer case damage can occure if it wasnt in neutral when you shifted into 4L.

Transfer case stuck between 2H and 4H

get a gasoline container filled with 5 liter gas and then splash it 90 deg above your transfer case then lit it with a safety match. don't use lighter for it might cathc your hands and you may get burned. throw the safety match instead of putting it slowly.
