The recommendation is to get a new one & have it reprogrammed. ... Is the airbag control module a normal wear item or should I expect that it would last the .... easily shipped, and you have the scanner that can reset any faults it may come with. ... Can'tyou simply reset and see what comes back, then fix it?

srs lights are the airbag light most common fault is a wire in the steering which atatches to air bag on steering wheel cannot remember what its called but i have just replaced mine for same problem

Either the sensor in the bumper has lost communication with the airbag module, or the airbag module is bad, or the airbag package itself is damaged somehow.

remove battery and wait 30 secs computer now clear

re install cable and start with no codes
if air bag light comes on then you have a loose wire

just unhook the battery for about 20 minutes. if you have an anti-theft radio make sure you know the code and how to enter it.

You may find that resetting the system by removing the negative battery cable briefly will correct the matter. Be sure you have radio codes and can reset any alarm systems and reset the clock.

More likely there is a circuit or sensor fault in which case you'll need to scan the system with a scanner and then check the indicated components prior to replacing them. The scan tools for airbags are proprietary by manufacturer. Your local Ford Dealer or a well equipped independant garage will scan and reset the system for you for a fee. But you can perform the repairs yourslf (wiring, sensors). I do not recommend the removal or installation of the airbags by untrained personnel.

I just had my car worked on in one shop, a HYUNDAI ATOS 2000 they fixed a bad windshield wiper mechanism, but after the repair, my airbag light remained illuminated,
the garage mechanic tried with 2 diagnostic computers to
'reboot' my cars own computer, but neither of his devices could communicate with my car,
I had to go to another garage with a proper computer
the repair took only 5 seconds!!
sobs!, they charged me $50 for the 'work'......the first garage evidenlty, touched something, and I had to pay the bill......live & learn,.
before this I tried all the 'tricks' like disconnecting the battery,
first neg, then pos, nothing else worked, damned computers!!

Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds then reconnect to reset Airbag ECM. Joe ASE Master Tech
