Hello jesse
the knob is most likely broken you need to take it off and get a new one, the threads on it are broken-striped,use plyers for the job,but safe the "light "logo new switch -knob -does not come with it..

I need to remove the knob on the headlight shaft so i can remove part of the dash to replace lamps in the instrument panel. I do not see a set screw. Help. Thanks

You don't remove the knob you remove the hole shaft by depressing a small button on the bottom of the switch. Go to a parts store and have them show you a switch and you will see how it works. Lee

Headlight switch removal. Once I can get at the switch how does it come out?

take off dash trim, under the switch is a button, push it in and pull out the knob. remove bolt holding switch and you will have to wiggle to get it out. when putting in the knob sometimes it will not want to catch, pull out knob rotate 120 and insert again, this was the hardest part.

How do you remove/replace the light switch on the dash

It's easy, I had a 98 F-150 (same switch) and I removed the switch a couple of times.

Disconnect Neg battery cable, then turn switch to ON position and pull knob outward to the fog light ON position. Using a small screwdriver, pry the knob off the headlight switch.

Turn the knob 180 degrees from the ON position an reinstall it back onto the headlight switch.

Turn the headlight switch to the OFF position, then rotate the knobclokcwise as far as possible and hold it. This will enable the lockingtab on the back to retract and the headlight switch to be removed fromthe instrument panel.
