Question about Toyota MR2

1 Answer

MR 2000 toyota would not start after sitting all winter.

New battery last year, charged it and it started OK. Left sit for a month and same issue. Could the anti theft on car drain battery that much? If so can it be disabled?

The battery can be disconnected if you let it sit for more than a week. most common drain that i encounter is in the audio system. disconnect the negative battery cable and put a test light (wired light bulb) between battery post and cable end. if the light is on or even dim, start pulling fuses one at a time. if the light stays on, replace the fuse and move on. if the light goes out then you have found which circuit the draw is in.

I just had this same problem with a '96 . do you have a vats key in your '94? you need to bypass the VATS system. read some of the blogs on this site and it will tell you how to do it. I fixed mine with a $2 resistor from radio shack.

SOURCE: 2000 GMC Jimmy will not start

You'll have to check the charging system, fuel system, or perhaps maybe a relay switch that may control the fuel because those including the fuel filter usually go out before a fuel pump is replaced. And also check the alternator and battery. Hope you fix it.

My 2000 Toyota tundra lose all brake fluid when left setting for 3 month in the winter time but does not lose it in the summer has all new brake lines booster has been pulled and ck all calipers have

Surely it would have a wet spot on the ground where it was leaking. Around one of the tires or under the drivers side master cylinder. Brake fluid doesn't evaporate. Could also be inside the cabin area.

Battery drain

Probably. Over a few months a battery needs to have a float charge on it to expect it to start in the spring. I'd purchase a float charger (quite inexpensive) and hook it up whenever the vehicle is not run at least semi-monthly. Just storing a vehicle is not good. They should be driven, and fully warmed up, say about 10 miles or so, at least once a month. More frequently is better.

My 2000 300m has been sitting for 7 months without being started and the battery went dead during this time. it was running fine prior to sitting. I tried to jump start it and it would not start, I saw...

There has to be a code store in the computer that will tell you what might be wrong. the code is the place to start. My 99 sat for a year, and after recharging the battery and getting it started the only code I could get though, was the dead battery or disconnected battery code- but the point is, it started. Check for mouse-eaten wires at the cam sensor and the Crank Sensor. Hey- it could happen...

My 2000 cadillac has been sitting for @ 3 months and when i crank it only makes a ticking sound...what could be the problem....the battery is dead and when hooked up to battery charger does the same thing

OK, if the battery is dead, that may be expected for an older battery that sits for 3 months without charging.

I would try a new battery that has been charged up, and make sure the contacts at the sidemount are clean and shiny, and if not, brush with a wire brush until they appear clean.

On a 2000 Deville, it would not surprise me if the battery was older than 3 years, which is the average life expectency of a battery, based on my experience at Sears Roebuck & Co. as a battery installer.

Good luck on this repair.

Own a 2005 BMW M3, car battery draining -battery less than year.

From what you're saying here, I believe that you simply have a bad battery. Most batteries only last 5 years, much less if they're left to sit in storage periodically. You really should charge the battery overnight and do a load test on it the next day. The person(s) you spoke to at BMW were probably sales staff and not actual technicians. Costco has very good batteries at reasonable prices.

Is there a common problem with something draining the battery when the vehicle is not being regularly used?

Batteries will lose power if they sit for long periods of time. It is a good idea to start the vehicle once in awhile to restore the charge to the battery. Batteries will lose their charge and it is not a good idea to let them sit for a long period of time, especially in the winter months. If your battery is older, it may not be holding a charge as good as a new one would.

Changing Sienna 2000 battery

The horn relay is stuck. The fuse box is right by the battery, remove the horn relay (it pulls straight out) and replace. The guide is in the lid. Removing the relay (or the 10A fuse, tool is also in the box) will stop the horn, but the relay's contacts are probably locked.

Sometimes just a little shock will dislodge the contacts that are locked together, but it's probably worth replacing with new.
